Are you an expert in biostatistics who enjoys using statistics to understand and solve complex challenges in medicine? 

Are you interested in the unique opportunity to grow and shape the biostatistics function of a high-growth technology company, while also helping to drive the adoption of novel statistical methods in clinical trials?

The ideal candidate must have a deep knowledge of the application of statistical principles in the life sciences industry, strong interpersonal and leadership skills, and the desire to build and manage the world's best biostatistics team.

Day-to-day work will include:

• Interface with company leadership including the Heads of Data Science and Engineering to drive Unlearn's technology strategy.
• Lead the biostatistics group composed of the (i) the Statistical Methods group performing research and development of novel statistical approaches to clinical trials, and (ii) the Clinical Statistics group which applies these methods in clinical trials with external sponsors.
• Ensure the execution and statistical integrity of protocols, statistical analysis plans, study reports and presentations and publications of clinical studies by applying your past experiences and providing statistical leadership.
• Communicate with clients, regulators, and the scientific community through scientific publications, presentations, and other documents.
• Attract, retain, develop, and promote talent to build a team with an optimal balance of experience and diverse perspectives.
• Promote Unlearn's cultural virtues and create a culture of accountability in the statistical organization through goal setting and performance feedback.
• Develop expertise beyond biostatistics by researching relevant medical literature and regulatory documents, and take on a leadership role teaching others in the company about the clinical, regulatory, and commercial climate.
• Ability to work in our office in downtown San Francisco (when it is safe to return)

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

You are an entrepreneurial scientist who wants to help build a new, computationally-focused approach to important problems in healthcare.

You'll likely have:

• PhD or MS in biostatistics or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in statistics applied to clinical trials including drafting statistical analysis plans and study protocols.
• Experience managing a team and demonstrated project management skills (i.e., delegation, prioritization, time management, budgeting).
• In-depth knowledge of applicable clinical research regulatory requirements, i.e., Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) guidelines.
• Experience drafting statistical sections of regulatory submissions and interacting with regulatory agencies.
• Interest in modern statistical methods such as Bayesian inference, computational statistics, and machine learning. 
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Equally capable of presenting to external audiences at statistical conferences or to clinicians, or to internal audiences such as the commercial team or the company's board of directors.
• The flexibility and adaptability necessary to be an early employee at a growing startup.
