    Job Title: Manufacturing Engineering Manager

    Location: Grand Rapids, MI

    Description:

    Guides and directs manufacturing engineering staff to provide dependable processes and equipment to the manufacturing organization. Continuously strives to drive improvement in machine up-time, production efficiency, and overall plant productivity through improvement and automation opportunities. Responsible for creating, maintaining, and improving the CN programs required to fabricate components on the equipment.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Improves manufacturing process to drive optimal efficiency performance.
    • Monitors and improves the machine up-time on all major pieces of equipment.
    • Coordinates manufacturing engineering department workload within the department and with expectations of those outside the department.
    • Assists with Safety and Environmental compliance for the production facility.
    • Proposes and manages all capital expenditures for the production facility.
    • Drives accountability and ownership of plant Safety, Quality, and Efficiency performance and goals.
    • Ensures that all production equipment has optimized CN programs to efficiently produce the required product.
    • Manages staff priorities. Selects, hires, and trains employees. Recommends salary increases and conducts performance reviews.
    • Solves problems with departmental and internal customers.
    • Assists the Maintenance Supervisor and/or other appropriate leadership with programs, activities, and responsibilities of the maintenance department.
    • Writes reports, general correspondence, and employee appraisals.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering.
    • More than eight years of manufacturing experience required.
    • Experience managing a team of engineers required.

    Skills Required:

    • Knowledge of various manufacturing processes including metal fabrication, vacuum forming, robotics, and assembly.
    • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
    • Proven track record of automation and labor optimization.
    • Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills required.

    Working Conditions:

    • Plant environment with occasional discomfort due to dust, noise, and fumes.
    • Extended work hours frequently required.
    • Work requires attention to details, pressures related to meeting deadlines, scheduling requirements, and simultaneous projects. Work is frequently interrupted by distracting influences such as people, telephone calls, etc.
    • Work may occasionally require heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying of up to 40 pounds.

    Hours per week: 40 (extended work hours frequently required)
