    Job Description

    The UCB Franklin Theatre Manager is responsible for our live entertainment venue's front and back-of-house needs. The Franklin Manager hires, trains, and manages a team of Theatre Staff, serving as the Lead Venue Manager onsite during performances. This UCB leadership role sets high standards and develops customer service protocols, health and safety procedures, signage, and equipment needs for our live performance spaces. The Franklin Manager sets the tone and maintains consistency in all venue interactions with UCB community stakeholders: customers, performers, producers, VIP guests, students, and UCB staff. The Franklin Manager synthesizes data and constituent needs across all departments to empower Theatre Staff with the information necessary for a smooth experience.

    A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL LEAD BY EXAMPLE WITH A SEE-A-PROBLEM-SOLVE-IT ATTITUDE, EXCEL IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT, AND TEAM MOTIVATION.

    THIS FULL-TIME, EXEMPT POSITION REQUIRES ONSITE PRESENCE DURING LIVE EVENTS FROM 5PM – 12 MIDNIGHT FOR A MINIMUM OF 5 NIGHTS WEEKLY. THIS POSITION IS MAINLY EVENING-BASED BUT WILL REQUIRE PARTICIPATION IN UCB STAFF MEETINGS AND EVENT PRODUCTION ACTIVITIES BETWEEN 9AM – 5PM ON AN AS-NEEDED BASIS.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Partner with the Head of People & Culture on hiring all Theatre Staff (event Staff, Theatre Tech, maintenance, cleaning, etc.).
    • Deliver formal performance feedback and coaching to all Theatre Staff.
    • Schedule, train, and manage all Theatre Staff as needed.
    • Maintain an organization-wide master calendar of theatre events.
    • Manage Theater Operations budget lines, including staffing.
    • Update and maintain all theater operations guides & documents, including updating the Theater Operations Manual and training presentation.
    • Partner with the People & Culture on venue health and safety procedures.
    • Ensure that all events comply with security and safety policies to reduce the risk of adverse incidents.
    • Work with UCB Artistic Directors and independent event producers on venue signage and equipment needs, load-ins, and load-outs.
    • Work with UCB Artistic Directors and Event Staff to ensure a smooth show and talent flow for all performances.
    • Work with the Event Staff to develop best customer service practices for ticket sales, comps, rush, and refund scenarios.
    • Work with the theatre Tech Staff to manage technical and program information flow each day of shows.
    • Manage information updates across systems to ensure accurate information, including the Grid, Tech Sheets, Production Request Forms, and more as necessary.
    • Maintenance and management of green room, dressing rooms, and prop storage.
    • Create and maintain venue resources and documents on Google Docs, including updating and uploading documents daily.
    • Responsible for maintaining inventory and organization of all theater operations supplies & equipment.
    • Manage vendor relationships and be responsible for invoice processing and accuracy of coding. 
    • Approve final payable hours for all Theatre Staff.
    • Create a written wrap report and summary of all necessary show timelines and budget info.
    • Ability to maintain confidence as it relates to sensitive information.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Must have at least 5 years of leadership experience with live event theater operations.
    • Must be comfortable working in Excel and Eventbrite.
    • Superior customer service, communication, and delegation skills.
    • Experience hiring, managing, and training staff; experience building large teams is a plus.
    • Experience working within predetermined budgetary goals.
    • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines across several UCB live performance spaces while maintaining a high quality of work.
    • Ability to understand how Theater Operations fit into the big-picture goals of the entire organization.
    • Excellent decision-making and creative problem-solving skills.
    • Comfortable with the heavy lifting and labor inherent in loading in and out of festival sites.
    • Comfort in Canva, Photoshop, and PowerPoint is a plus.

    Additional Information

    • Compensation: $70,000-$80,000 base salary, DOE + benefits
