    Job Description

    UCB is looking for a highly motivated, collaborative, and detail-oriented full-time NYC Video/Live Theatre Tech Manager with an excellent understanding of comedic storytelling, cinematography, and post-production to evolve and oversee various video livestreaming, production, and integrated media workflows. Reporting to the National Artistic Director, the Video/Theatre Tech Manager is a solutions-driven leader and subject matter expert who sets service-level standards for the rest of the A/V staff. The Video/Theatre Tech Department Manager works closely with the Venue Manager and supports the needs of UCB's performance and learning spaces, including pre-production planning and on-site production activities for live comedy shows and other programming.

    Successful candidates will lead by example with a see-a-problem-solve-it attitude, excel in project management, and team collaboration.

    This full-time, exempt position requires onsite presence during rehearsals and live events 5-7 days weekly. This position is mainly evening-based but will require participation in UCB staff meetings and event production activities between 9am – 5pm on an as-needed basis.

    Key Responsibilities:

    - Responsible for the overall design, specification and budgeting of lighting, sound and video systems for all events UCB main stage and black box theaters

    - Hire, train and supervise additional technical theatre staff; responsible for filling any emergency staffing needs in the tech booth during nightly programming.

    - Determines the necessary technical supports, such as lighting, sound, staging, and special needs, necessary for events and performances presented at the facility in advance of production dates.

    - Monitors the condition of equipment including lighting, sound, and rigging equipment; arranges for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; performs preventive maintenance on equipment; maintains inventory of all equipment and gear.

    - Provide Artistic Directors, event producers, and on-site staff with clear technical documents for each event to ensure that the proper quality of service is met for all performances.

    - Coordinate with Artistic Directors to advance all content needs with the external production teams.

    - Anticipate and respond to needs and requests from Artistic Directors, show producers, and UCB clients.

    - Ensure delivery of all video projects and assets are on schedule.

    - Identify best practices for tech and video services and evolve daily operations as necessary.

    - Oversee video collection and storage to ensure all media is archived appropriately and can be readily obtained.

    - Point of contact to the tech department group email address. Answering all incoming theatre tech inquiries sent from performers, producers, management, while delegating information to corresponding staff members.

    - Conducts technical rehearsals for performers based on needs

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    - Minimum of 3 years of live video production, broadcast, and streaming experience (theatrical, comedy, musical, special events), ideally with some experience in a people managerial role.

    - Previous work as a Theatre technician, having run tech rehearsals and cue-based programming for a variety of performances.

    - In depth understanding of digital audio boards alongside coordinating equipment with ability to troubleshoot equipment under pressure

    - Experience with and strong knowledge of streaming video, video formats, encoding and delivery methods

    - Familiarity with video streaming service KPIs, Multi-output systems design, including feeding a combination of projection, live streaming, LED and/or TV, and video-on-demand destinations

    - Advanced skills in video switching and signal distribution equipment

    - Professional video post-production skills (Premiere, After Effects)

    - Proficiency with standard video related software such as, but not limited to, Playback Pro, and Qlab

    - Working knowledge of video-related rigging gear and practices

    - Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as organization and time-management skills

    - Availability and willingness to work extended hours, including nights and weekends, and be on call as necessary

    - Excellent organization, planning, and communication skills

    - A collaborative mindset and ability to work with varying and changing needs

    - Ability to work independently

    - Ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously and meet deadlines

    - Punctuality, professionalism, discretion, and maintaining confidentiality are essential

    - Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds

    - An enthusiasm for comedy

    Compensation:
