Upward Bounds Behavioral Health Center is an addiction recovery center servicing adults facing the challenges of substance and mental health abuse. Upward Bounds Behavioral Health Center is looking for a Peer Education Specialist to join our team. This individual will be a crucial point of contact for our IOP clients by providing support, education, advocacy, coaching, and life skills information.

Duties

Under the supervision of the Lead Addiction Counselor, assist with effectual recovery education for individual and group sessions

Facilitate a process for clients to develop a plan to: clarify their problem(s); provide emotional support; identify needs and strengths; and identify resources including appropriate levels of services, entitlements, community resources and other natural supports

Provide education and support to clients with substance use challenges to assist with negotiating their way through the social, legal, educational and health care systems

Assist clients in building their own community-based support network, and ensure that their goals are integrated into one unified plan as necessary

Build and maintain strong partnerships with agencies and providers of services related to substance use

Administrative duties

Requirements

MUST BE A MARYLAND CERTIFIED PEER RECOVERY SPECIALIST

The candidate must have personal experience dealing with individuals with substance use challenges

High school diploma or equivalent

Familiarity with state and local resources and knowledge of how to access them

Active listening skills for providing non-judgmental peer support and engagement to families

Proficient computer skills including internet research and use of a database
