    Urbanspace is looking for a passionate Interior designer / architect who is capable of bringing a brand-focused perspective to the physical environments of Urbanspace. The role will conceive, define and execute environmental design of vendor and market spaces, signage and wayfinding, customer experience design and more to bring our vibrant markets and food halls to life. Our architect will be heavily involved in our food markets (Markitect).

    Urbanspace cultivates experiences and creates local food halls and marketplaces. Our community is made up of a diverse range of creative and inspiring entrepreneurs and curious and vibrant customers – we strive to bring them compelling, unique experiences and design is an integral part of this. We are a fast growing and innovative team based in downtown NYC not far from Union Square.  

    Responsibilities;

    This role works in collaboration and reports to the Chief Creative and Marketing Officer to:

    • Concept, develop and execute innovative design for food and beverage vendors within our markets while keeping to budgets and deadlines.
    • Ensure excellence in all designed work that maintains company brand standards are met and are consistent.
    • Partner with construction team and market project managers specifying FF&E requirements (purchasing lead times, finishes and budgets) and space planning.
    • Overall project management; can manage budgets and schedules that meet scope objectives. Working with, and managing as necessary, a diverse range of cross functional partners including architects, designers and construction teams and, addionally vendor clients and brand partners
    • Translate the brand experience and vendor branding in our creative market spaces into living, breathing experiences
    • Partner and collaborate with the Design director / graphic designer on signage and wayfinding.

    • Know that the magic is in the detail
    • Have experience in design, execution and production of food and beverage spaces.
    • Have a keen eye for color and materials and think innovatively about spaces, finishes, furnishings, lighting and fixtures.
    • Are an excellent communicator with strong verbal and written communication skills. You can present and articulate conceptual ideas and design rationale clearly and concisely. 
    • Understand that building relationships is the foundation of success with team members and cross functional partners.
    • Are a leader with the ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments and with brand partners.
    • Can multi-task and are adept at juggling a variety of projects with varying deadlines in a fast-paced deadline driven environment.
    • Like to seize opportunity – you are a do’er, you take initiative and are a proactive problem solver and see challenges as part of the creative process
    • Understand feedback is part of the design process when working through revisions. 
    • Are curious and are always seeking knowledge in design and are up to date on current interior and furniture trends.
    • Have a love of food and markets is a big plus– it’s the center of everything we do (someones got to do it!)

    Qualification and Skills:

    • 5 years professional experience in related field, food and beverage or retail experience a plus
      Ability to act as consultant for multiple merchant concepts and improve sales through creative design 
    • College degree in interior design or architecture 
    • Solid skills in AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite
    • Knowledge / skills in InDesign, PhotoShop, and Illustrator are a plus
