  • Responsibilities

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Schedules patients for surgery at participating hospitals and ASC’s. Ensures that surgery details are communicated to the patient, hospital and physician in an accurate, friendly and professional manner. Responsible for all insurance authorizations regarding surgery.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High school degree or GED required, college degree preferred
    • Computer skills required
    • Surgical scheduling experience preferred
    • Strong organization skills
    • Strong communications skills, both oral and written
    • Medical terminology knowledge

    CONTACTS:

    Interacts with all levels of the URA business and clinical organization, insurance carriers, patients and external healthcare facilities.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Accurately schedule all urological surgeries with hospitals, doctor office’s (for combined cases), anesthesia, assists and any special needs (i.e. laser, equipment, etc.) for surgery

    • Contact insurance carrier and obtain surgical pre-authorization

    • Schedule Pre Op appointments 7-10 days prior to surgery

    • Schedule PAT (pre-admission testing), labs, EKG, etc. 10-14 days prior to pre-op appointment

    • Schedule Post Op appointments as needed

    • Contact and obtain from primary care physicians/cardiologists/specialists any clearances required for patient to have surgery

    • Contact and obtain from primary care physicians all required surgical testing (labs, EKG’s, etc.) at minimum of 3 days prior to surgical date

    • Obtain, compile and distribute (ProviderFlow or manual fax) all required paperwork that needs to go to external facilities for culmination in surgical procedure

    • Maintain ProviderFlow surgery scheduling fax queue by downloading and indexing to patient chart in a timely manner

    • Reschedule all aspects of surgery when needed either due to patient or physician changes

    • Communicate with hospitals/facilities to release all block times when not needed

    • Conduct business in a professional manner at all times, treating patients and coworkers with respect and dignity; avoid use of inappropriate language

    • Other job duties as required

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Constantly required to perform gross body coordination such as walking, stooping, and standing while performing tasks, carrying and lifting objects. Constantly required to perform simple motor skills and manipulative skills such as typing and writing.

    Constantly required to sit for long periods of time.

    Required to walk and stand (including for long periods of time).

    Constantly required to read computer screen.

    Constantly required to hear normal sounds with some background noise when answering phones.

    Able to process great amounts of information, apply problem solving skills and exercise good judgment.  Able to concentrate on details with multiple interruptions. Able to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
