    SUMMARY

    Overall responsibility for the management and operation of the Utility systems for manufacturer in the north Richmond, Virginia area including boilers, steam turbines, filtered water & wastewater treatment plants, and landfill. The objective of the role is to provide reliable, effective, low-cost utilities systems/support to the mill’s papermaking operations. Helping to deliver quality products and services to our customers, through continuous improvement efforts in a safe, reliable, effective and team-oriented manner.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Leads the mill-wide efforts to improve the effectiveness of our energy and utility systems.
    • Develop strategies and create plans to reduce energy consumption and implement more energy-efficient technologies.
    • Monitor usage and track energy consumption and identify areas for improvement.
    • Educate and teach team members about energy-saving practices.
    • Devises, provides, and manages systems to ensure adequate training and coaching of all department personnel.
    • Negotiate contracts and work with contractors and external stakeholders, including energy suppliers.
    • Stay up to date and keep current with energy legislation.
    • Research and recommend new technologies and renewable sources.
    • Collaborate and work with cross-functional teams to implement energy efficiency projects.
    • Analyze data and identify trends and patterns in energy usage data.
    • Ensures that policies and procedures are in place for the safe operation of boiler, water and waste treatment, and landfill systems.
    • Ensures operation of powerhouse, boiler, waste treatment, and landfill systems follow all environmental regulations.
    • Communicates overall operations status of the Utilities systems to all levels of mill management.
    • Works directly with Operations to improve the reliability and cost of delivered utilities.
    • Plans, budgets, and administers preventive maintenance procedures and programs.
    • Coordinates with Procurement all energy and utilities-related contracts.
    • Creates and administer department safety programs that are in concert with mill programs.
    • Develops and initiates programs and projects to improve the safety, reliability, and effectiveness of department operations.
    • Provides information to management and all areas of the mill to generate awareness of energy usage and costs.
    • Provides direction in development, design, installation, and start-up of utility, department, and related projects.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Minimum +5 years of professional experience in energy or facility management, environmental services, engineering, or equivalent experience promoting resource efficiency within an organization.
    • Experience managing energy consumption and operating costs related to a range of facility and asset types, including analyzing and evaluating data and using software and data management tools.
    • Experience with budgeting, procurement and contract documents, and financing, including grant programs.
    • An ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with multiple stakeholders and demonstrates leadership experience.
    • Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Energy Procurement Professional (CEP), Building Operator Certification (BOC), Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP), or other relevant credentials are preferred.
    • Bachelor’s, master’s, or other advanced degrees in engineering, environmental science, resource management, or related field.
    • Must have Aerobic Treatment and highly prefer an individual with Anaerobic Treatment experience.
