We are seeking a motivated and dedicated Utility Inspector to support our team with the delivery of North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) highway and bridge construction projects. As a Utility Inspector, you will play a crucial role in verifying the correct installation of new and relocated utilities on various projects throughout Boone and the surrounding areas. You will collaborate closely with NCDOT, contractors, utility providers, property owners, and other stakeholders to confirm both wet and dry utilities have been installed and/or relocated in accordance with plans and specifications.
Duties will include but may not be limited to:
Utility Inspection 1. Travel to various project sites throughout the area and conduct thorough inspections of utility installations, relocations, and modifications on transportation projects. 2. Verify that work is performed in accordance with project plans, specifications, and standards. 3. Document and report any deviations, deficiencies, or safety concerns.
Quality Assurance 1. Collaborate with NCDOT staff, contractors, and utility companies to address and resolve utility-related issues promptly. 2. Verify that materials, equipment, and workmanship meet NCDOT Standards and Specifications, including both horizontal and vertical installation tolerances. 3. Perform materials testing on soil, asphalt, and concrete when required.
Safety and Compliance 1. Monitor and enforce safety protocols and best practices related to utility work. 2. Inspect operations for compliance with applicable regulations and permits.
Reporting: 1. Using an iPad, maintain detailed daily records of inspections, test results, and compliance documentation. 2. Compute quantities for items utilized during daily operations including but not limited to traffic control, erosion control, earthwork, utility components, concrete, and asphalt. 3. Complete Materials Received Reports (MRRs) for materials management and compliance. 4. Document field changes and provide information for as-built plans.
Communication: 1. Utilize strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with utility companies, contractors, and project team members about field conditions, real or potential issues, schedule impacts, and overall project status. 2. Provide clear feedback and recommendations for corrective actions when necessary.
