We are seeking an experienced Utility Inspector / Field Auditor to support natural gas distribution and transmission construction, damage prevention, and line locating activities across highly regulated urban environments in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, including Virginia and Maryland. This role plays a critical part in ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, procedural adherence, and continuous improvement across multiple jurisdictions. Field Auditors provide independent QA/QC oversight through field observation and auditing to verify alignment with approved procedures, company standards, and regulatory requirements, while identifying opportunities to strengthen performance and consistency. The ideal candidate is confident working independently in the field, demonstrates strong professional judgment, and brings a collaborative, safety-first mindset when engaging with internal personnel, crews, and contractors. Field Auditors are expected to identify procedural non‑conformances, assess field execution objectively, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts through accurate documentation and professional field engagement. Responsibilities: • Perform field audits and quality inspections of gas distribution and transmission construction, and line locating activities • Verify compliance with approved procedures, company standards, and applicable regulatory requirements • Identify procedural gaps, safety risks, and quality issues with objective, defensible documentation • Exercise professional judgment while maintaining credibility and constructive relationships in the field • Support consistency across union and non-union crews, internal personnel, and contractors • Document daily field observations using designated digital reporting systems • Complete written reports following significant procedural and safety concerns, as required • Participate in weekly team meetings and ongoing communication with supervisory leadership • Contribute to a culture of accountability, collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement Qualifications: • A working knowledge of DOT pipeline safety and OSHA regulations. • General knowledge and understanding of natural gas operations • Ability and willingness to complete required Operator Qualification (OQ) training and performance evaluations for covered tasks (computer-based and hands-on) • Comfort reviewing, understanding, and applying operating & maintenance manuals, field alerts, and procedures • Experience with mobile inspection or field observation applications preferred • Ability to quickly adapt to new digital tools and documentation systems • Prior experience in inspecting, auditing, or overseeing gas distribution construction, damage prevention, or locating activities • Strong understanding of safety, compliance, and regulatory expectations in urban utility environments • Excellent attention to detail and documentation quality • Ability to work independently while remaining aligned with program expectations • Strong communication skills and professional field presence • Valid driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle for travel between job sites Compensation: $80,000+
