  • Responsibilities

    Job Summary: The Utility Worker position is primarily performed outdoors. Employees in this position are often working near public roadways, exposed to traffic, and sometimes in inclement weather. Additional job site conditions include working in or next to open wet wells, manholes, trenches, sewage, & various chemicals. The employee may also be exposed to such conditions as dampness, direct sunlight, heavy machinery, mechanical and electrical equipment, and noise.

    Essential Functions:

    Perform a variety of tasks involving manual labor in heavy construction projects; perform manual work in pump station demolition and rehabilitation.

    Excavate and expose utility piping.

    Perform confined space entries to access wastewater wet wells for demolition.

    Perform a variety of trades, including but not limited to carpentry, concrete work, pipework, plumbing, grading, and landscaping.

    Maintain a clean job site: pick up all tools and equipment and secure the job site each day to eliminate potential hazards.

    Material handling and storage.

    Load and unload trucks, haul and hoist materials.

    Regular in-person attendance is required.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    High school diploma or equivalent

    At least two (2) years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.

    Must be able to hear alarms and audibly identify the presence of danger or hazard.

    Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to the work schedule.

    Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

    Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.

    Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.

    Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.

    Ability to work as a member of a team.

    Must have a valid Florida driver’s license and acceptable driving record

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Lift Station Experience: 1 year (preferred)

    Physical Demands:

    Must be able to regularly move items weighing up to 65 pounds

    Must have overall stamina to perform physical activity, including the ability to stand or walk for a long period, traverse rough terrain, work in or over water/wastewater, and work at heights or confined spaces.

    Work Environment:

    Exposure to direct sunlight, inclement weather, and construction environments.

    Reporting Relationships:

    The Utility Worker reports to the Utility Manager

    Hours:

    Monday – Friday (7:00 am – 3:30 pm)

    Occasional Voluntary Overtime
