The HVAC/Engineer A provides journeyman level mechanical work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial and window refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, including large absorption chillers, ice machines, walk-in freezers, pneumatic controls, air handlers, and water treatment equipment. Works from blueprints and sketches.  Adjusts equipment, checks for gas leaks and faulty parts.  Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed through inspection while in progress and upon completion.

Required Skills

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• High school diploma or the equivalent GED
• Two years experience as a journeyman HVAC technician
• Must be member of local union.
• Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, equipment, processes and techniques of the trade required, including use of torch and welder.
• Must be able to work from written and oral instructions, read diagrams and blueprints, and maintain standard records.
• If driving is a requirement for the employee, he/she must meet the requirements specified in the Fleet Driving Safety and Compliance Policy and must continue to meet these requirements as a condition of employment.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds to carry equipment and supplies.
• Good dexterity, balance and coordination required to work from ladders and scaffolding.
• Position requires standing, lifting, climbing, reaching, stooping, bending, pulling, squatting, and walking.
• Must be able to wear half mast respirator to comply with OSHA requirements.
• Must be CFC certified.
