Job Title: VDC (Virtual Design and Construction) Coordinator

Job Summary: Hood Construction is seeking a detail-oriented VDC Coordinator to support our preconstruction and field operations through Building Information Modeling (BIM) and virtual design tools. This role works closely with project managers, superintendents, and trade partners to develop coordinated models, identify and resolve clashes, and ensure constructability before work hits the field. The ideal candidate combines technical modeling skills with a solid understanding of commercial construction sequencing and trade coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, manage, and update 3D BIM models for assigned projects using Revit, Navisworks, and related software
- Coordinate trade models (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural) and lead clash detection meetings with subcontractors
- Support preconstruction with quantity takeoffs, model-based estimating, and constructability reviews
- Generate and maintain coordination drawings, RFIs, and shop drawing markups derived from the model
- Collaborate with project managers and superintendents to translate model data into field-ready layout and sequencing plans
- Maintain model accuracy throughout construction by incorporating field changes, RFIs, and approved submittals
- Support layout teams with point file exports and total station/GPS layout data as needed
- Train project staff and field personnel on basic model navigation and use of VDC tools
- Assist with site logistics planning, 4D scheduling visualization, and progress tracking using model data
- Maintain organized project documentation within the firm's project management and document control systems
Qualifications:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent field/VDC experience will be considered in lieu of degree
- 2+ years of experience in a VDC, BIM, or construction coordination role, ideally in commercial construction (preferred but not required)
- Proficiency in Revit and Navisworks required; experience with AutoCAD, BIM 360/ACC, Bluebeam, and Procore a plus
- Working knowledge of MEP and structural systems coordination
- Strong understanding of construction documents, specifications, and field conditions
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work directly with subcontractors, design teams, and field staff
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple project models and deadlines simultaneously
Preferred:
- Experience with point layout technology (Trimble, Leica) and 4D scheduling tools
- Familiarity with drone-based site capture and reality capture/scan-to-BIM workflows
