    VELCO's Advancing Grid Intelligence through Learning Experiences (AGILE) Program is a new eight-week summer internship opportunity for college students and college graduates. Based on principles of agile project management, AGILE Interns will make meaningful and tangible contributions to VELCO's strategic projects to maintain or enhance the reliability, affordability and sustainability of the transmission system. AGILE Interns will be assigned to one department – Operations, Planning, Engineering, or Technology – but will complete interdisciplinary projects. AGILE Interns will participate in inter-departmental “scrum” meetings throughout the summer to coordinate and align their respective projects with the requirements of multiple technical stakeholders. Participants with open-mindedness, attention to detail, and excitement about gaining new insights every day will thrive in this innovative, fast-paced learning experience.

    Primary Purpose

    The AGILE Intern, Transmission Planning will work closely with the Planning department to provide project and technical support. The tasks are expected to be completed independently, with assistance provided by supervisors, the internship coordinator, and fellow interns.

    Responsibilities

    • Support building commissioning criteria, data sharing process, and database design for cutting-edge transmission planning tools

    • Support transmission planners by utilizing technologies and strategies to improve overall system reliability, resilience, and environmental sustainability

    • Support change management process, procedures, templates, database structure and schema

    • Contribute to the improvement of procedures and templates

    • Become familiar with the sources of planning and modeling data

    • Conduct research and analysis to help understand how the system is or will be affected by intermittent, weather-dependent, and behind-the-meter resources not visible to the VELCO operator and planner

    Education & Experience

    Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Computer Science, or a related field. Preference will be given to students who have accumulated two years of pertinent part-time experience.

    Knowledge/Skills

    • Familiarity with electrical engineering, computer science, data science, or operations research concepts

    • Experience with programming languages, such as SQL or Python

    • Strong technical skills and ability to troubleshoot computer hardware and software issues

    • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and relational databases

    • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate effectively with colleagues

    • Open-mindedness, strong communication and problem-solving skills

    Physical/Mental Demands

    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

    • Must maintain a valid driver's license.
