    Based in San Francisco and reporting to the CEO, the Head of Human Resources is a critical leadership position at VIR.  Working closely with executive management, the Head of Human Resources will help chart the course of the company’s growth, the development of its culture, and the tone and pace of Vir.   

    The successful candidate will be a creative, entrepreneurial thinker who is able to generate options, build consensus, and execute human resources strategy. This individual will have a strong track record of leading organizational growth while simultaneously looking ahead to identify and implement improvements appropriately, expediently, and respectfully. A strong leader who can help Vir plan and develop talent for future success will be valued.

    Specific Responsibilities include:

    ·         Provide overall leadership and guidance to the HR function by overseeing talent acquisition, career development, employee relations, compensation and benefits while acting as the cultural ambassador to maintain and strengthen Vir’s core values and attributes across an expanding portfolio of stand-alone yet integrated offices.

    ·         Operate both strategically and tactically based on a nuanced understanding of the organization’s culture, while also having an appropriately cadenced bias for action and “rolling up your sleeves” while delivering exceptional results.

    ·         Build and sustain excellent relationships at multiple levels in the workplace.  Use relationships not only to gain a better understanding of Vir’s needs, but also to strategically accomplish goals by using well-honed influencing skills to enable others to execute across the organization.

    ·         Manage employee relations issues in the best interest of employees and Vir. Use experience in employment law and legal issues related to human resources and serve as a liaison with legal firms as needed.

    ·         Must conduct all aspects of the role with integrity, leadership, and respect.

    Qualifications and Competencies:

    ·         A Human Resources professional with a minimum of 10 years of experience including talent management, recruiting, training and development, compensation and benefits.

    ·         Experience evaluating and implementing sophisticated HR related programs and initiatives.  Experience with leading HRIS platforms and related software.

    ·         Proven success building consensus around HR strategy and tactics throughout the organization.

    ·         Demonstrated ability to attract and retain outstanding talent and assemble and motivate high performance teams.

    ·         Superior interpersonal, communication and presentation skills at all levels are a necessity; preferred experience working with a Board of Directors.

    ·         Experience in a high-growth start-up highly desirable; preferably Life Sciences.

    ·         Expert knowledge of California labor laws and practices.

    ·         Strong financial and analytical acumen including budget development and management.

    ·         Elevated level of personal integrity, ethics and initiative with a commitment to supporting and enhancing Vir’s culture.

    ·         Willingness to travel when needed.

    ·         Ability to work full time in San Francisco.
