YOUR ROLE AS OPERATIONS MANAGER; Morgan Advanced Materials is looking for an Operations Manager for their biggest plant in Fostoria, Ohio. The Operations Manager is part of the global Operations and Supply Chain organization for the Electrical Carbon Global Business Unit, reporting into the global Manufacturing Director. This position is responsible for the facility’s operational leadership, including production, quality management, health and safety, maintenance and engineering with dotted line responsibilities towards human resources management, finance and supply chain. The operations Manager has around 6 direct reports.
The role will require strong cross-functional collaboration with the Commercial, Finance and HR functions as well as other Morgan facilities, as Fostoria is a key internal supplier of materials. The Operations Manager will create a safe, compliant, collaborative, inclusive and increasingly efficient working environment with their team in Fostoria in order to support the global Sales and Operations Plan.
The plant in Fostoria is the largest manufacturing site in Electrical Carbon. The plant covers several acres with multiple buildings, furnaces, cranes and heavy machinery and a diverse landscape of industrial operations; e.g. mixing, pressing, extruding, furnace operations. Around 150 people work at this plant with mostly a long tenure which has created a good atmosphere on the site. Morgan is investing heavily in new equipment for this plant to become more efficient and be ready for the future.
We are looking for a hands-on, experienced manager who is not afraid to make changes and get their hands dirty. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter who has an entrepreneurial mindset and have strong emotional intelligence to work with a wide range of stakeholders. For this position you need to be on the site, so if necessary a relocation package is available. Whilst this is a senior position it still provides an opportunity to develop and grow further within Morgan.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES ARE: • Health & Safety; o Champion a strong health and safety culture, by visual leadership, personal engagement, inclusion and care; o Responsibility over the safe condition and operation of the facility’s processes and machinery; o Improve the efficiency of the site’s operation while improving environmental KPIs. • Quality o Responsibility over the quality of Fostoria’s production, including dealing with internal and external customer complaints, reducing scrap and overall cost of quality. Ensuring compliance with relevant certifications such as ISO standards. • Production o Direct responsibility over the production of the site, including the leadership of all personnel involved in the manufacturing process, hitting production targets, on time with the shortest lead-times possible. o Improve efficiency of our production lines, increase productivity and achieve operational or Continuous Improvement (CI) saving targets. • Maintenance o Improve machine up-time, reduce frequency and severity of machine breakdowns; o Invest focused effort to modernize our operations and improve the site’s footprint. • Leadership o Direct reporting responsibility over the production, quality, engineering, maintenance, CI, EHS teams and dotted line reporting over the HR, finance and supply chain teams.

Qualifications
OUR NEW OPERATIONS MANAGER: • Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Material Science preferred), Supply Chain or equivalent, or equivalent experience in Operations Management; • Progressive managerial experience in Operations Management; • Demonstrated experience in performing a leadership role in a manufacturing facility; • Experience working in industrial, refinery or materials is preferred; • Advanced English language skills; • Experience in working with kilning/ furnace technologies, materials mixing, pressing, extruding is an advantage; • Lean/Six Sigma qualification is an advantage.
