    Position Summary

    The Vice President of Communications & Legislative Affairs serves as a senior executive leader responsible for shaping, guiding, and executing the organization’s internal and external communications strategy, as well as leading the organization’s legislative advocacy and government relations efforts. This role ensures that the organization’s mission, strategic priorities, and organizational voice are clearly articulated across all audiences—including employees, members, providers, legislators, and community partners.

    Essential Responsibilities

    Legislative Strategy & Government Relations

    • Develop, lead, and execute an annual comprehensive legislative strategy that advances the organization’s mission and advocacy priorities at the local, state, and federal levels.

    • Track policies, regulatory developments, and budget initiatives that impact the I/DD service system; advise the CEO and executive leadership on implications and recommended actions.

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with elected officials, their staff, advocacy organizations, and industry partners.

    • Coordinate site visits, legislative meetings, advocacy events, and district office engagements to strengthen awareness of the organization’s safety-net role.

    • Represent the organization in meetings with legislators, government agencies, and advocacy partners; prepare briefing materials, talking points, and strategic follow-up.

    Communications Leadership

    • Develop and execute the organization’s comprehensive internal and external communications strategy in alignment with organizational priorities.

    • Serve as the primary steward of the organization’s brand, messaging, and voice across all communication channels.

    Internal Communications & Events

    • Lead planning, content development, logistics, and executive facilitation for organization-wide meetings.

    • Oversee the quarterly employee newsletter—including topic selection, content creation, drafting leadership messages, and collaborating with the organization’s writer/designer to ensure high-quality, engaging publications.

    External Communications

    • Direct the development of the quarterly Member and Provider Newsletters, ensuring that content reflects strategic initiatives, organizational updates, legislative priorities, and educational resources.

    • Manage all digital communication channels, including social media, ensuring consistency of messaging, brand alignment, growth strategies, and timely content.
