    Position Summary:

    The Vice President of Safety is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all aspects of safety programs and policies across the organization to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, with a primary focus on FMCSA and DOT regulations. This executive role leads a team of safety professionals to maintain a culture of safety excellence and accountability in a Class A trucking operation.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Strategic Leadership

    Lead the company’s safety strategy, ensuring alignment with overall corporate goals.

    Advise executive leadership on safety performance, risks, and improvement opportunities.

    Regulatory Compliance

    Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and other applicable safety regulations.

    Oversee audits, inspections, and interactions with regulatory agencies.

    Driver Safety & Training

    Direct and enhance driver training programs (onboarding, ongoing, remedial).

    Monitor driver performance using telematics and other tools.

    Oversee drug and alcohol testing programs and driver qualification file compliance.

    Accident Prevention & Investigation

    Lead accident investigation and root cause analysis efforts.

    Develop corrective actions and safety programs to reduce incidents.

    Manage claims and coordinate with insurance providers when necessary.

    Fleet Safety

    Ensure all vehicles meet or exceed safety standards and inspections.

    Partner with Maintenance to ensure proactive safety in fleet management.

    Safety Metrics & Reporting

    Track and report KPIs such as CSA scores, preventable accidents, training compliance, etc.

    Present safety performance reports to executive team and board as needed.

    Culture Development

    Champion a culture of safety-first throughout all levels of the organization.

    Lead safety communication and recognition programs.

    Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Transportation Management, or a related field (preferred).

    10+ years of progressive experience in transportation safety, with 5+ years in a senior leadership role.

    In-depth knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, OSHA regulations.

    Proven experience leading large teams and managing multi-site safety operations.

    Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.

    CDL-A preferred or willingness to obtain.

    Preferred Skills & Attributes:

    Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent certification.

    Experience with safety technologies (ELD, dash cams, telematics, etc.).

    Ability to manage crises and respond quickly to incidents.
