    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Certified Addictions Counselor oversees the emotional and behavioral well being of youth in the program. In conjunction with outside agencies and families, this position develops and implements a comprehensive strength-based therapeutic plan for each youth to teach and encourage prosocial interactions, behaviors and positive community integration. 

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Oversees a multidisciplinary team within the program, provides individual, group and family counseling.
    • Documents services in the clinical record, engages in inter-departmental care coordination, and service outcomes. 
    • Responsible for a case load, while conducting required assessments, as necessary. 
    • Develops and updates treatment plans, and fosters therapeutic relationships with families. 
    • Conduct Multidisciplinary Treatment Team meetings, substance abuse groups, and individual counselling sessions. 
    • Communicates with Case Managers, processes mental health referrals.

     

    SKILLS & ABILITIES: 

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
    • Organized with attention to detail.
    • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. 
    • Leadership and conflict-management skills. 
    • Thorough knowledge of residential treatment programs for adolescents. 
    • Knowledge of assessment methods, individual and group meeting techniques.

     

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: 

    • Bachelor's degree in, sociology, psychology, counseling, criminal justice, education, human services, social work, divinity, rehabilitative services, health services, or public health administration. 
    • 1+ year of experience in a related human services field. 
    • Certification in Addiction Counseling (CAC).

     

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • Must be 21 years of age or older. 
    • Flexible schedule (evening, weekends, holidays) to facilitate program services. 
    • Cleared tuberculosis test results. 
    • Cleared background checks from appropriate entities. 
    • Obtain and maintain First Aid Certification (CPR) and Level 1 fingerprint clearance card. 
    • Must have a valid driver's license and be eligible to drive to facilitate program services as required.

    WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • May lift and carry up to 10 pounds frequently, up to 20 pounds occasionally, up to 50 pounds infrequently.
    • Performs tasks that may involve standing or walking 50% of the day; sitting 50%of the day.
    • May bend, stoop, reach and grasp as necessary.
