About the Position

VRE is the place to be! We are currently seeking an IT Support Specialist to work with our Information Security & Technology team to provide user assistance and helpdesk support. The IT Support Specialist will plan, install, configure, maintain, monitor, and optimize computer hardware, software, and communications and diagnose and resolve network issues, while ensuring minimal user downtime. This position also diagnoses and resolves user issues and provides end-user training and support. This position is based in Alexandria, Virginia, with opportunity for some limited weekly remote work. Minimum and Preferred Qualifications & Experience

** Minimum**

• Combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelors degree in Information Technology or related discipline
• Experience successfully providing application support of VoIP systems, and experience with hands-on hardware troubleshooting
• Experience effectively presenting information both orally and in writing to a wide range of audiences
• Experience effectively using technology, systems, and tools to include Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft TEAMS and related applications, and SharePoint
• Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

** Preferred**

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology or related discipline
• A+, Net+, Security+, or equivalent certification
• Cisco Meraki Solutions Specialist Certification
• Public sector/transportation/rail experience

Additional Requirements

Must possess a valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, and always maintain a safe driving record during employment with VRE. Ability to work the flexible hours demanded by a transit operation environment.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a part-time temporary position with an hourly rate from $33.45 depending on education, certification, and experience. This position is not eligible for benefits; however, free parking, travel on our trains.and transit benefits up to $300/month are available.

About VRE

The Virginia Railway Express (VRE), a joint project of the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission and the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission, provides safe, cost effective, accessible, reliable, convenient, and comfortable commuter-oriented rail passenger service. VRE operates thirty-two trains each weekday on two lines, Fredericksburg and Manassas, which converge in Alexandria and continue into the District of Columbia. Most trains run north in the morning and south in the afternoon/evening.

VRE directly serves nine cities and counties in Central and Northern Virginia, with nineteen total stations in the rail system. VRE contributes to the economic development of its member jurisdictions and is an integral part of a balanced, intermodal regional transportation system.
