    FULL TIME POSITION  WORK DAYS: MONDAY - FRIDAY  HOURS: 7AM - 4:30PM  HOURLY RATE: $22.77

    PURPOSE OF POSITION

    The NBVC Pest Applicator is responsible for applying herbicide on the grounds of Naval Base Ventura County according to contract specifications.  

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Perform required herbicide and pest applications as per contract requirements and as assigned by the Project Manager. 
    • Notify Project Manager of replacement tools, equipment and supplies that are necessary to ensure uninterrupted work flow.
    • Perform routine cleaning, preventative maintenance and minor repair tasks on tools and equipment as required.
    • Operate hand tools and power tools commonly utilized in grounds maintenance operations safely and proficiently.
    • Perform plant bed maintenance which includes fertilizing, weeding, mulching and policing as needed.                       
    • Prune trees up to 15 feet in height from ground level including cleanup and debris removal as needed.
    • Prune shrubs, hedges and vines including cleanup and debris removal as needed.
    • Trim and edge around walks, flower beds and walls including cleanup and debris removal as needed. Turf rejuvenation to include dethatching, aerating, seeding and fertilizing as needed.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and/or Experience - No minimum education requirements. Previous experience in applying herbicide is a plus. 

    Knowledge of Grounds Maintenance Tools: Must demonstrate the proficient use the following tools: backpack blower, hedge trimmer, line trimmer and chain saw as well as any equipment required for herbicide application. 

    Communication Skills - Ability to remember and follow verbal directions.  Able to read and interpret written or oral equipment operation procedures in English.  Must be proficient in speaking & understanding the English language in order to communicate with the control tower at the airfield.

    Interpersonal Skills: Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers and management.  Ability to work as part of a team.

    Self-Management Skills: Perform effectively in environments with frequent workload changes and competing demands. Set priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities. Ability to perform repetitive work according to set procedures.

    Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out basic written or oral instructions. Ability to think through the consequences of a decision prior to making it. Ability to recognize an emergency situation and take appropriate action.

    Computer Skills: None.

    Certificates, Licences, Registrations: Must have a valid driver’s license with an insurable record.   MUST HAVE CURRENT STATE OF CALIFORNIA QUALIFIED APPLICATORS LICENSE (QAL) CATEGORY B- LANDSCAPE MAINTENACE, C- RIGHT OF WAY & F- AQUATIC.

    Other Skills and Abilities:

    Must be willing and able to work up to 8 hours per shift.  Must be able to work in varying weather conditions, shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
