    Job Description

    Key responsibilities:

    Work with Engineering team to build, test and evaluate prototype system designs for complex medical systems. Integrate and test custom and OEM electrical, electronic, optical, and mechanical components into full systems including mechanical, optical, electronic, and electrical subsystems.

    Support engineering activities such as design, test, check-out, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototypes; electro-mechanical-optical systems; experimental design circuitry or specialized test equipment (applications may include lasers, optical systems, analog, digital and/or video circuits, and logic systems).

    Work from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts, or defined plans to perform testing, checkout, and trouble-shooting functions.

    Perform operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment; assist in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions.

    Align, test, and debug laser heads for R&D. Use test equipment such as optical power meters and heads, oscilloscopes, cameras, and spectrometers to characterize optical performance. Recommend design improvements.

    Review electrical cabling system and wire harness designs for ease of assembly and reliability; provide input to the design teams for improvements.

    Perform and document system testing on prototype and pre-production units to confirm system performance meets specifications. Perform product verification and validation testing and document results.

    Support transfer of products to manufacturing; write assembly and test methods and train manufacturing personnel. Work with Teams and Contract Manufacturers to transfer new product designs and product changes into the production environment at Contract Manufacturer. Train and support Contract Manufacturers on product assembly and test as required to support manufacturing builds.

    Develop test methods, test protocols, test equipment and test fixtures to fully test PCBA’s, optical, electrical, and mechanical sub-systems during prototype builds and in manufacturing.

    Provide general lab support involving upgrades to systems - both software and hardware.

     

    Position requirements:

    Minimum of AS degree (or equivalent experience) with 2+ years’ experience aligning lasers or optical systems in an R&D or manufacturing environment.

    Demonstrated experience working as a lab technician on complex opto-electro-mechanical systems.

    Demonstrated ability to assemble and test working prototypes of Complex Medical Systems that include Optical, Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Cabling and Software

    Hands-on, ability to work independently as part of a team. Ability to focus and be comfortable working in a fast-paced dynamic environment. Highly developed problem solving, communication and teamwork skills.

    Experience working with frequency doubled lasers, lamp or diode-pumped lasers, nonlinear crystals, laser diodes, electro-optical or acousto-optical switches, optical fibers, flashlamps, or imaging systems.

    Familiarity with test and measurement equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrometers, optical power meters, spectrum analyzers, signal generators and/or specialized test apparatus.

    Basic electrical assembly and laser/optical alignment skills are required.

    Experience building, testing, and debugging prototypes is desirable.

    Track record of working on Complex Medical Systems that have been successfully launched into the medical device marketplace.

    MUST HAVE:

    Hands-on build experience with complex electro-mechanical device products.

    Experience in testing complex electro-mechanical device products

    Basic electrical assembly

    Familiarity with test and measurement equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrometers, optical power meters, spectrum analyzers, signal generators and/or specialized test apparatus

    Experience in an R&D environment
