Position Summary : Valet Attendants provide safe, courteous vehicle parking and retrieval for eligible Veterans/visitors, assist with mobility devices, and serve as an initial point of contact at facility entry points. They screen users appropriately, secure keys, operate within designated valet lots, and coordinate with shuttle/escort services to maintain ≤10‑minute park/retrieval times and positive patient experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Greet arrivals; issue claim checks (hard copy or approved electronic software); secure keys; park/retrieve vehicles in designated valet areas.
Assist with wheelchairs, walkers, canes, and personal medical equipment; coordinate with escort staff for STAXI chairs.
Screen vendors/volunteers/employees from ineligible valet use; direct self‑parking to appropriate lots; maintain cleanliness of stands/equipment.
Use approved valet software/GPS/electronic ticketing for retrieval requests, performance tracking, and TAT transparency (including non‑smartphone alternatives).
Drive cautiously, follow traffic laws; immediately report accidents/incidents; comply with after‑hours retrieval procedures where applicable.
Professional conduct; photo ID badge and uniform (contractor‑provided; COR‑approved), closed‑toe black shoes; smoke‑free appearance (VANTHCS campus is smoke‑free).
No tipping; compliance with VA signage and equipment standards; cell phone use not permitted while parking or on duty; compliance with drug/alcohol‑free workplace and random testing.
Adherence to OSHA/Joint Commission/DoT and VA policies; reporting of incidents/accidents to VA Police/Safety and COR per timelines.
Initial and annual safe‑driver/defensive driving, patient safety transfer, emergency response, customer service training; participation in VA‑provided orientation as required.
Required Skills and Abilities:
1 year of experience preferred
Minimum 18 years of age; legal resident or U.S. citizen; fluent in English.
Valid Texas driver's license in good standing; driver screening and periodic record verification (initial and every 4 years; post‑accident review).
Health requirements: TB test, MMR, varicella, Hepatitis B (or declination), physical exam to ensure safe operation; CPR/First Aid, bloodborne pathogens, and PPE training.
Physical Demands and Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk, listen, and write. The employee frequently is required to use foot/ankle motions, hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
