    SALARY: Mid $50's annually 

     

    GENERAL SUMMARY

    The Assistant Manager will work under the general supervision of the Manager of Accounts Receivable with general managerial functions, general accounting functions, including the preparation of reconciliations, period closes, projections, reports, general ledger research and analysis, and accounting for financial aid and other grants. The Assistant Manager will need to know and apply managerial best practices as well as accounting theory and principles, recommend accounting policy and procedural changes, and ensure observance of professional standards and state rules including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Governmental Accounting Standards, Higher Education Accounting Standards, State Fiscal Rules, CCCS and College procedures, and financial aid and other grant rules, regulations, and guidance. This position has direct supervision of professional and classified staff.

     

    PRIMARY DUTIES

    • Provide oversight to the Cashier’s department.
    • Manages monthly tasks, sub-system reconciliations and implementation of General Accepted Accounting Principles and Governmental Accounting Standards Board as well as handling some tuition rate table proposals.
    • Oversees department collection efforts and maintains collection files.
    • Assists in reviewing/preparing journal entries and closing periods throughout the year.
    • Lead in reconciling clearing account codes and Student Banner to Finance Banner.
    • Assists in the maintenance of FRCC’s chart of accounts, provides training and updates to FRCC staff and monitors compliance with policies; and resolves day-to-day questions/issues with employees.
    • Maintains internal accounting controls and day-to-day accounting processes to ensure accurate and timely accounting data is produced and recorded in accordance with standards and rules established by professional, Federal, and State governing bodies. Analysis of General Ledger including postings from subsidiary ledgers.
    • Prepares year-end accruals, adjustments and schedules for the annual audit, State of Colorado compliance and financial reporting.
    • Assists with month-end and quarterly accounting duties.
    • Represents the department and College at internal (campus and division) and external meetings and as part of various assigned committees.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Required Skills

    REQUIRED EDUCATION

    • Graduation from a college/university with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field and 3 to 5 years of increasingly responsible professional accounting experience which includes process management.
    • OR, A valid licensure as a CPA by the Colorado Board of Accountancy and 3 to 5 years of increasingly responsible professional accounting experience which includes process management.
    • OR, 7 or more years of increasingly responsible professional accounting experience which includes process management.

     

    PREFERRED EDUCATION

    • Graduation from a college/university with a Master’s degree in Accounting or a related field.

    Required Experience

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

    • Knowledge/ability to operate standard office equipment; spreadsheet packages and word processing packages. Thorough knowledge of complex, automated accounting systems.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments of the College, students and government agencies.
    • Ability to analyze complex systems and make recommendations.
    • Knowledge of standard business practices and policies including budgeting, planning, and supervisory practices/principles.

     

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

    • Work experience in a higher education environment. Working knowledge of State of Colorado fiscal rules, CORE (State of Colorado accounting system), Banner (College accounting system), COGNOS and FOCUS report writing package.
    • Prior staff supervision experience. 
    • Certified Public Accountant license.
