Position Summary:

The Girls’ Varsity Basketball Coach is responsible for leading and developing a competitive, values-based basketball program that reflects the mission and educational philosophy of Wichita Collegiate School. The coach will be expected to foster a positive team culture focused on skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth while supporting the overall student-athlete experience.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about mentoring student-athletes, promoting leadership and character development, and building a program that supports both competitive success and student well-being.

Primary Responsibilities

Plan, organize, and lead all aspects of the girls’ varsity basketball program.

Develop and implement a program philosophy aligned with the school’s mission and values.

Design and conduct effective practices focused on skill development, conditioning, and team strategy.

Coach all scheduled games and prepare the team through scouting, film review, and strategic planning.

Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive team culture emphasizing leadership, accountability, and sportsmanship.

Mentor and support the personal, social-emotional, and leadership development of student-athletes.

Encourage balance between athletics, academics, and student well-being while monitoring academic eligibility.

Collaborate with the athletic department on schedules, travel, uniforms, and equipment.

Communicate clearly and professionally with players, families, administrators, and other coaches.

Assist with team selection, player evaluations, and program development across levels when applicable.

Maintain equipment inventory and support program needs, including budget requests when appropriate.

Promote the girls’ basketball program within the school community and support off-season development opportunities.

Qualifications

Previous basketball coaching experience at the high school, collegiate, or club level required.

Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategy, and player development.

Demonstrated ability to mentor and motivate student-athletes.

Commitment to the values and mission of Wichita Collegiate School.

Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Ability to work evenings and weekends during the season.

Preferred Qualifications

Background in education or youth development.

Experience building or growing an athletic program.

Experience working in an independent school environment.

Physical Requirements

Ability to actively coach on the court during practices and games.

Ability to lift and move athletic equipment when needed.
