General Description:
Lead a team in the design, development, production launch and maintenance of components, assemblies, or systems for the automotive market. This responsibility is generally broader than a Lead Engineer description and differs in terms of number of projects, technical depth or the introduction of new product technology. In-depth product focus and ability to perform and manage all the Key Accountabilities. Provides leadership characteristics that foster team progress, takes the initiative to take on challenging assignments and creates opportunity where none exists. Supervision responsibilities would generally include a small engineering team. Provides engineering leadership and is considered the technical expert. Capable of guiding problem-solving activity and fostering the use of strong analytical skills. Displays strong project management skills. These duties would include the direction and supervision of engineering personnel and the control of activity prioritization.

Project Success – Primary responsibility for attaining project and management goals on time and within an established budget. May be responsible for establishing project budgets. Responsible for predicting and communicating difficulties in meeting these objectives to management.
Program Management – Primary responsibility for program management activities related to release and production launch of product designs.
Customer Management – Responsible as overall program technical interface with customers with activities that include phone, electronic and personal communication as necessary to support development, production release and maintenance of products. This would include professional representation of SLPT in all areas of possible customer presence. Responsible for recognizing the need for and initiating appropriate management actions to assure positive customer relationships.
Teamwork – Considers and seeks out the impact of his/her actions within the team. Actively seeks collaboration with internal and external team members.
Responsible for preparing and carrying out significant internal and external project presentations.
Responsible for supporting division wide cost reduction and containment initiatives.
Design – Responsible for management of all facets of product design including generation and implementation of design concepts from component design through finished assembly.
Lab Development – Responsible for managing the development of design concepts through prototype hardware procurement, assembly, test, data analysis and design refinement.
Design Validation – Responsible for management of lab testing that is done to verify and validate the design concepts to meet specification requirements for function, environmental compatibility, reliability and durability.
Document Control – Responsible for management of all aspects of document control requirements as indicated in Design Control section of TS16949 Manual. This would include Design Control files, DFMEA, Parts Lists, Drawings, Specifications and DVP&R’s.
Prototype Program Management – Responsible for assuring all activities related to the development and delivery of prototype products to customers, plants and internal SLPT development uses are completed satisfactorily.
Special Assignments – Responsible for completion of special assignments as required.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Education/Experience
· Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred)
· Greater than 12 years of experience in product design and development
· Experience in components or systems preferred.
· Experience in positive displacement pumps
· Experience in singular and variable displacements pumps
· Supervision experience in technical business
· Management presentation skills and experience
· Project leadership experience desired
· Experience with general office computer tools (word processing, spreadsheets, office communications)
