    Job Description

    Position Purpose:

    • Performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled tasks in the operations and maintenance of water distribution and treatment systems, and wastewater collection and treatment systems.
    • Performs routine servicing and corrective maintenance of water and wastewater systems.
    • Understands and carries out oral and written directions.
    • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during other courses of work.
    • Provides facility with clean working areas.

    Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Cleans offices, bathrooms, dining areas, and all floors throughout buildings.
    • Responsible for all garbage/trash receptacle cleaning and liner changes
    • Helps maintain inventories of cleaning supplies and paper products.
    • Maintains grounds and buildings: cuts grass, weeds, and brush; trims trees and bushes; rakes grass, leaves and Trash, seeds and cares for lawns and ornamental plantings.
    • Operates and maintains vehicles, equipment and tools required to load, unload, haul, and spread sand, gravel, dirt and/or waste products (sludge, product waste, packaging waste, etc.); digs and refills ditches and trenches.
    • Carries or holds materials, supplies, and tools to assist operations and maintenance personnel only when core utility tasks are completed.
    • Performs other duties as required.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Education/Experience/Background:

    • High School Diploma/GED required.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    • Basic knowledge in the operation and maintenance of vehicles, equipment, farm machinery, pumps and equipment used in and around water and wastewater systems.
    • Familiarity with hand and power tools and equipment commonly used in the maintenance of vehicles, equipment, structures, and buildings.

    Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

    • Possess a valid vehicle operator license.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds from floor to waist level. Items lifted are often bulky and difficult to handle.
    • Must be able to climb and work off a ladder or scaffold and climb into vehicles having high ground clearance.
    • Must be able to push a push-type, power lawn mower for up to 3 hours a day.
    • Must be able to walk up to 3 miles per 8-hour shift.
    • Must be able to dig and backfill a ditch.
    • Must be able to ascend and descend up to 1,000 steps in an 8-hour shift.
    • Must be able to carry a 50-pound toolbox, up a flight of stairs.
    • Must be able to work in constricted places.
    • Must have flexibility to reach, stoop, and bend to work on equipment.
    • Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather.
