We value a range of experiences in people’s educational backgrounds and encourage people who have been directly impacted by the criminal justice system to apply.Who you are:The summer 2022 internship with Vera’s Jail Decarceration team is an opportunity for a graduate level student to immerse themselves in a full-time role at a non-profit organization. Work on the Jail Decarceration team will support local advocacy and technical assistance to local governments and community partners. The intern will participate in day-to-day team activities ranging from conducting research, working directly with local jurisdictions, developing webinars, supporting meetings, and more.In this role, you will:Support technical assistance to help counties and cities reduce their reliance on jail and develop alternatives for keeping people safe and thriving in the community.Conduct research and presentations to guide sites in their decarceration efforts. Help to liaise with site and community partners and project funders. Schedule and participate in internal site team meetings.Assist with drafting and editing program reports, proposals, presentations, and blog posts.Contribute research and content for site-based memos and reports, public-facing publications, and blog posts.Support project proposal drafting and submission processes.Support coordination and logistics for projects.Assist team with administrative tasks to help move projects forward. Support logistics for external meetings.What qualifications do you need?Required:Current graduate student with a demonstrated interest in reducing mass incarceration and criminalization.Strong organizational skills Proficient with Microsoft Office SuitePreferred:Professional, personal or academic engagement with issues specifically related to jails.List of required software applications:N/ACompensationThe compensation range for internships is $16.00 - $25.00, per hour. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors including but not limited to experience and performance. Applicants may choose to receive academic credit.
