Job Description

The MANAGER OF DATA SCIENCE partners with members of the data science team, the Senior Leadership, Technology teams, Product Managers, Marketing Operations teams, Analytics, and members of other teams to support and manage the delivery of our data science efforts.  This role will be coordinating the work of a team of bright and enthusiastic data scientists.

To be successful, the ideal candidate must have a passion for all things data, communicate effectively, understand complex business problems, and apply innovative thinking and processes to solve those problems.  The candidate enjoys hands-on work and understands its importance to support internal and external requests.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coordinate the activities of the data science team – with focus on product development, career, and team development 25%
• Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to develop product strategy and roadmaps 20%
• Drive data science process for the team and the organization, ensuring best practices 20%
• Support building and productizing models – providing guidance and collaborating on issues of methodology, data science tooling, data science product development, performance monitoring and measurement 20%
• Contribute to define strategies around model operations (Model Ops) that leverage what we have built and help define what needs to be improved and/or built 10%
• Support a leadership presence in industry events and meetups 5%

Qualifications

SKILLS, ABILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS

• Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Engineering, Econometrics, Statistics or Information Sciences such as business analytics or informatics
• 3+ years of experience in analytics
• 2+ years of experience leading / managing data scientists
• Deep focus on team execution, follow-through, accountability and results
• Passionate team builder who mentors, supports, and invests in team development to help unlock team members potential
• Systems thinker with a quantitative approach to problem solving
• Strong program management and stakeholder management expertise
• Cross-functional player with a solid track record of partnering with ML teams to define strategy and requirements
• Prior experience leading / managing enterprise-scale data science projects from development to production around continuous model training and deployment
• Interest in learning about business applications, business models and economics of machine learning and data technologies
• Technical background in Machine Learning, Data Science and Data Platforms
• Prior experience in applying Data Science in Digital Marketing Technology is a plus
• Ability to communicate effectively with team members and senior technical and business stakeholders
• Solid understanding of traditional supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms and how to apply them to solve real world business problems at scale.
• Familiarity with modern industry leading tools and frameworks related to scalable ML, AI and ML/Ops
• Big data technologies such as Hadoop, S3, MapReduce, Apache Spark is highly desirable
• Cloud platforms such as AWS a plus
• Ability to deal with rapid change, strong growth mentality and a servant leadership approach
• Comfortable exploring how to leverage state-of-the art large scale data engineering and machine learning in the areas of NLP, AI, and Optimization.

Additional Information

Salary: $155,000-$170,000

The ultimate compensation offered for the position will depend upon several factors such as skill level, cost of living, experience, and responsibilities.
