    Title: Mechanical Engineer, Senior

    Details:

    FLSA: Full-Time, Regular Salary, Non-Exempt

    Schedule: 0800hrs - 1600hrs; M-F

    Location: On-Site, Aberdeen, MD or Chicago, IL (Aberdeen, MD preferred)

    Supervisory: No

    Position Summary: The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing and conducting analysis to support the development of tactical power systems for the US military. The Mechanical Engineer leads the concept phase, design activities, and reviews and reports the design progress. Assignments are broad, requiring considerable initiative, originality, ingenuity, and excellent problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate will have excellent analysis skills, advanced mechanical engineering experience, and a good understanding of manufacturing methodologies.

    Key Roles/Duties:

    Lead Action Officer (AO) for the mechanical engineering portion of the project to include: the complete mechanical design, 3D model generation, 2D drawings, assembly drawings, and Bill of Materials (BOM) generation

    Conduct full tolerance analyses using various tolerance schemes [worst case, Root Sum Squared (RSS), etc.]

    Conduct Mechanical Design Failure Mode and Effect Analyses (DFMEAs) to ensure products conform to customer specifications and requirements

    Construct prototypes; evaluate and document their performance; identify possible improvements

    Proficient in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

    Understand design considerations for various mechanical system integrity (i.e. ultrasonic welding, snap fit, screws, drop test, shock, vibration, hematic seal, etc.)

    Provide necessary sustaining support to existing products, and work in a cross-functional team environment to assure mechanical system-level integration and design for manufacturability

    Prepare technical reports

    Explore new and existing materials and methods to solve design challenges

    Maintain an awareness of customer requirements and any complaints to identify any areas needing development or improvement

    Be able to work with various design sites globally

    Serve as the leader, champion, and catalyst for teaching, training, and growing Lean principles, tools, and techniques in the engineering organization and manufacturing

    Perform any additional related duties as assigned

    Basic Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering with more than five (5) years of experience in Electronics Manufacturing in the consumer, telecom, automotive, and/or military industries

    Very strong mechanical design aptitude and technical experience with plastic injection molding parts and general manufacturing processes

    3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) modeling systems (i.e. SolidWorks, ProEngineer) experience

    Strong knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) design principles

    Strong quantitative, design, analytical, and problem-solving skills

    Strong verbal and written communication skills

    Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Preferred experience with structural Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and thermal FEA

    Master’s in Mechanical Engineering with more than five (5) years of experience in electronics manufacturing in the consumer, telecom, automotive, and/or military industries

    Experience with SolidWorks

    Travel:

    Up to ten (10) percent (%) travel is required

    Clearance: Ability to gain a Secret clearance required; Active Secret clearance or higher is preferred
