    JOB TITLE: STEM Learning Assistant- Work-Study

     

    DEPARTMENT: STEM Sirviendo

     

    PAY RATE: $12.25 per hour 

     

    NUMBER OF OPENINGS: 2

     

    Fall 2019

     

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

     

     

    • Learning Assistants are undergraduate students who, through the guidance of weekly preparation sessions and a required pedagogy seminar, facilitate discussions among groups of students in the classroom under direct supervision of the SoTL /LA coordinator and Co-Supervised by Faculty in the classroom.  LA's will be responsible for: 

      30% Encouraging learning in the classroom   Assisting students acquire problem solving skills Lead small group discussion geared towards understanding of subject. 20% Attending 1on1 meetings with faculty/supervisor to overview progress, effort and extra support

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

     

     

    •  Must be a current student of the Community College of Denver, taking at least six hours of credit and awarded work-study funds.

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

     

     

    • Undergraduate students Must be in and maintain good academic standing. Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA Have taken and passed the course they will L.A. for. Eligible for Work Study Funds. Ability to work in fast paced classroom setting. Proficiency in oral and written communication.

     

     

     

    TIME COMMITMENT

     

    8-20 hours a week (may not exceed 20 hours per week)
