     Position Summary

    The Senior Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the financial close process and providing accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP. This position will oversee and provide work direction to a growing team, which include the A/R, A/P, accounting systems, internal control, general ledger and cost accounting functions.

      

    Position Responsibilities

    • Direct oversight of day-to-day accounting operations
    • Lead the month-end close process, ensuring financial statements are accurate and completed by the agreed-upon recurring financial close schedule.
    • Review account reconciliations completed by the team on a monthly basis, ensuring discrepancies/errors are identified, researched, and corrected in a timely manner.
    • Lead the year-end close process; plan/oversee the year-end physical inventory.
    • Work collaboratively and effectively with external auditors, ensuring deliverables are provided in a timely manner and reporting deadlines are met.
    • Maintain accounting in accordance with GAAP. Work closely with the VP of Finance & Accounting to determine the appropriate accounting treatment for complex transactions and adoption of new accounting standards, such as ASC 842.
    • Document, improve and maintain internal controls, ensuring they implemented and functioning appropriately.
    •  Manage PO/invoice approval and coding, working collaboratively with the FP&A team to ensuring GL, department, and dimension coding is aligned with established budgets.
    • Identify and champion process improvement opportunities. Work closely with the business systems analyst and VP of Finance & Accounting to prioritize systems implementation and improvement projects that will drive automation.
    • Manage the Sr. Cost Accountant; work closely with a variety of departments throughout the organization, including finance, production, farming/vineyard and winemaking operations to ensure expense components of wine costing are properly identified, understood, and recorded in a timely and accurate manner. Document internal cost accounting policies, ensuring they are followed and are maintained in accordance with GAAP.
    • Ensure bank reporting is completed by established due dates, including covenant and borrowing base calculations.
    • Support Vice President, Finance & Accounting and Senior Manager, FP&A as needed during the annual budgeting process.
    • Preparation of recurring and non-recurring journal entries as needed.
    • Ensure payments for tax obligations are made timely, including property taxes, excise taxes and sales taxes.
    • Issue, maintain, and update accounting policies, procedures and forms. Work collaboratively with the Business Transformation function to ensure current versions are available and filed in the appropriate location within SharePoint.
    • Provide ad-hoc financial reporting and analytical support as needed.

       

    Position Requirements

    • Can build and maintain accurate, well organized and formula-driven financial models and general ledger account reconciliations.
    • Can clearly articulate business issues; is comfortable with back of the envelope analysis in support of timely decisions.
    • Ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
      • Must be a self-starter with the ability to complete activities with minimal direction
      •  Must have good organizational skills and the ability to follow through on projects.
      •  Exceptional oral and written communication skills
      •  Professional attitude with a strong work ethic.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting.
    • Advanced degree and/or CPA a plus.
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience required; audit experience a strong plus.
    • Solid accounting foundation and understanding of GAAP required.
    • Wine industry experience highly preferred but not required.
    • Strong Excel skills required.
    • Microsoft Navision software experience a plus.
