    Veterans Community Project (VCP) Overview

    Veterans Community Project (VCP) is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to ending veteran homelessness. Founded by combat Veterans in Kansas City, Missouri and now serving Veterans in four communities nationwide, VCP provides transitional tiny house villages, case management, and critical support services to ensure Veterans get back on their feet and continue standing. Believing in the sacred promise of “leave no one behind,” VCP serves all Veterans, regardless of discharge status, length, or type of service.

    The Role

    The Digital Content Creator has a big job--shaping how people see us online. They're the ones who create the engaging and inspiring content you see across our digital channels. From developing a cohesive strategy for our national social media presence to teaming up with other departments to run impactful campaigns, they're in the thick of it. Plus, they will help crunch the numbers to make sure we're on target.

    They are our wordsmiths, fine tuning our voice in everything from brochures to blog posts, emails to videos. They're not just about words, they're all about visuals too. Whether it's making graphics, editing photos, or producing videos, they're creating engaging, consistent content on every platform, making sure our brand's personality shines through loud and clear. We’re looking for someone passionate about our mission who is ready to roll up their sleeves to keep it going strong. This is an in-person position.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Generate written, visual, and multimedia content including graphics, photography, blog posts, email, video, and more tailored to the target audience and platform.
    • Team up across the organization to create integrated marketing campaigns that align with our fundraising and marketing objectives.
    • Owns the day-to-day management of our social media channels, overseeing the planning, production, and delivery of short and long-form content that aligns with our goals. Keep an eye on how we’re doing, keeping the content fresh based on what the numbers say about what’s working.
    • Offer guidance and coaching, sharing content best practices to empower local social media coordinators, keeping all in line with the overarching national social media strategy.
    • Use native and third-party social media management tools to schedule, analyze, and optimize content performance.
    • Monitor what’s being said in our online communities and with outside partners, adding to the conversation where it makes sense.
    • Ensure our paid social strategy is on point, determining where we show up, and what that looks like, keeping the brand consistent through voice and visuals.
    • Work closely with the Director of Brand & Marketing on design, layout, and artwork for print projects such as flyers, annual reports, and special event invitations.
    • Help create branded, easy-to-use templates to ensure consistent, high-quality branded communications for national and local work.
    • Stay organized, keep your tasks on time, and adjust resources as needed to meet deadlines.
    • Proofreading and quality control checks.

    Competencies and Areas of Expertise

    • Passionate about the mission of Veterans Community Project.
    • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, New Media, or Public Relations, or a minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience, or a combination of education, training, and experience that equips with the necessary knowledge and abilities to perform the essential job functions.
    • Proven hands-on experience in online marketing.
    • Possess a solid understanding of brand, social media, and content marketing strategies.
    • Showcase top-notch writing, editing (photo/video/text), presentation, and communication skills through a supporting portfolio of work.
    • Demonstrate strong creative skills and a keen eye for detail.
    • Hands-on experience developing and managing social media campaigns.
    • Understand digital analytics and metrics using tools to monitor, manage, and evaluate campaigns.
    • Creative, dependable, and committed to fostering collaborative relationships with teammates, vendors, and suppliers.
    • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, HootSuite, and Canva.
    • Dedicated to delivering top-notch customer service to our team members and outside partners.
    • Flexibility is important in this role, as things move fast. Must be ready to take on extra tasks or update plans to make sure we’re hitting our goals.
    • Be curious with a desire to always learn and grow, as well as a curiosity to understand how your job fits into the work the broader team is doing.
