    Veterinary Emergency Doctor - Job Description

    We engage with clients meaningfully, offering the highest level of compassion and care to create an exceptional veterinary emergency experience. The company has been operating for 6 years and is expanding rapidly, adding 20-30 hospitals annually. Openings are available due to this growth.

    Compensation:

    • Base Salary: $160,000 + 22% production bonus (annual earnings of $200,000 - $300,000)
    • Continuing Education (CE): 100% covered (online or in-person), plus $3,500 towards CE-related travel expenses

    Shifts:

    • Hours: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
    • Swing Shifts: Flexible hours such as 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM, 2:00 PM – 2:00 AM, or 4:00 PM – 4:00 AM
    • Shift Frequency: 156 shifts per year (typically 3 shifts per week, totaling 12-13 per month)
    • Team: 3-4 doctors per shift

    Locations:

    • Greater Chicago Area:
      • Schaumburg (6-8 new sites opening January 2025)
      • Buffalo Grove (1)
      • Naperville (2)
      • South Loop (1)
    • Most hospitals have 10 doctors and 3 leadership roles: Medical Director, Hospital Manager, and Nursing Manager.

    Required Skills & Experience:

    • DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree.
    • 1 year of emergency or critical care experience preferred, but not required.
    • Experience with exotics preferred; willingness to treat exotics is required.
    • Basic computer skills for practice management, electronic medical records (EMR), and collaboration software.
    • Strong communication skills: ability to listen, speak clearly, and interact professionally with clients in person and over the phone.
    • Ability or willingness to perform minor and major emergency surgeries.
    • Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or as-needed basis based on hospital demands.

    Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

    • Answer medical questions over the phone.
    • Triage and treat emergency patients promptly.
    • Gather relevant information (signalment, presenting complaints, vitals) and perform physical exams.
    • Use diagnostic tools (ultrasounds, x-rays, bloodwork, biopsies) to assess pet conditions.
    • Develop and implement diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
    • Communicate diagnoses and treatment options with clients.
    • Prepare and present treatment estimates to clients.
    • Maintain accurate medical records.
    • Educate clients on the value of tests, treatments, and aftercare.
    • Prescribe medications and follow drug protocols.
    • Perform minor and major emergency surgeries.
    • Educate clients on aftercare and preventative measures.
