Veterinary Immunology Faculty (St Kitts)
Job Description
** Position Overview:**
The successful candidate will join the Department of Biomedical Sciences and be a part of a dynamic interdisciplinary team (immunologists, bacteriologists, virologists, parasitologists, epidemiologists and pathologists) focused on various aspects of infectious diseases including immunology and immunopathology. The team also collaborates on teaching and research with colleagues in the Department of Clinical Sciences. The successful applicant will have demonstrated expertise in immunology and in teaching immunology to professional DVM and postgraduate students, and also have the ability to instruct students in the application of that knowledge to clinical practice. The successful candidate will also be responsible for teaching a portion of the veterinary virology and principles of infectious disease courses to DVM students. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute a portion of his/her time to our online Master’s program in One-Health. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate in research programs, resulting in publications in peer-reviewed journals, and participate in Master’s and PhD programs. As and when required, s/he may also contribute to the diagnostic service delivered by the technical team within the Diagnostic Laboratory. S/he will report to the Head of Department, Biomedical Sciences.
** Essential Duties and Responsibilities**
Teaching (~60%):
• Participate in team-taught courses in Veterinary Immunology, Veterinary Virology, and Principles of Infectious Diseases
• Participate in case-based or other didactic courses
• Participate in Graduate Teaching (online Master’s program in One-Health)
Research and Scholarly Activity (~30%):
• Intramural funding is available (upon application); however, submission of grants for extramural funding is expected
• Develop an independent and/or collaborative research program resulting in publications in peer- reviewed journals
• Presentation of scientific findings at international conferences
Administrative/Service (~10%):
• As and when required, contribute to the diagnostic service delivered by the technical team within the Diagnostic Laboratory
• Engagement in service activities, including faculty meetings, assigned committees, and designated office hours is expected.
• Serve on postgraduate committees for Master’s and PhD students.
• Completes other duties as determined and assigned by the Department and/or Division Head.
Qualifications
** Must be willing to reside on the Caribbean island of St Kitts
• A DVM or comparable degree (MD, or a degree in Immunology/Virology) with a PhD in Immunology/Virology/related areas are essential, and a concentration of thesis work in the Veterinary Immunology/Virology field is highly desirable.
• Post-doctoral training and/or Diplomate status are highly desirable.
• Experience in Clinical Diagnostic Immunology, such as molecular biology/diagnostics, serology, and/or bioinformatics is highly desirable.
• Track record of publishing in quality peer-reviewed journals, as well as potential to collaborate or develop an independent research program.
• A strong commitment to meeting the needs of students and an understanding of student-centered learning, in collaboration with the existing immunology/virology teaching team.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
