Company Description
Four years ago in the fall of 2017, Victory Autism Academy owner Nick Schuerman, founded Victory Collegiate Academy, a K-8 Charter School located in the heart of Maryvale. Nick Schuerman, believed that students in Maryvale should have access to an individualized and flexible curriculum. Victory Collegiate Academy offers a “whole child” approach to education ensuring that all students have access to character lessons, physical education, and small group learning in addition to their core content. One of Nick’s first hires was his Special Education Director/Teacher, Krystal Lowe.
Nick learned quickly of Krystal's passion along with her extensive experience in working with children on the spectrum. Early on, Krystal expressed her desire to be a Principal of an autism school and decided to take classes at ASU to obtain her Master’s degree in School Leadership and Administration. During this time, Krystal and Nick often spoke about opening an Autism school together.
Nick has spent his entire 21 year career (6 years of teaching and 13 years in administration as Principal and/or Executive Director) working with at-risk and underserved students, mostly in traditional school settings. His passion and desire to help and support the disadvantaged, coupled with having a son on the autism spectrum himself, is what ignited his spark to get serious about the conversations he and Krystal had about opening up a new school.
Both realizing there was a desperate need on the west side for a school that specializes in educating children on the spectrum, they began to formally plan in the fall of 2019.
Victory Autism Academy officially opened for the 2020-2021 School Year, with 40 students. Each year, Victory Autism Academy will expand to offer more students and families the opportunity to access high-quality education geared toward their needs.
