  • Responsibilities

    GENERAL SUMMARY

    The Environmental Intern position will work with the Environmental Specialist and Water Quality Specialist to learn, participate, and engage in many functions of the environmental programs sponsored by the Viejas Tribe. The Environmental Intern is responsible for performing a variety of general clerical duties, environmental sampling, and analysis of environmental data. The duties are not limited to assisting with office support, research, submitting reports, outreach and participating in field examinations.

    CORE SCOPE OF POSITION

    • Assists the Resource Management Department with compliance projects.
    • Gains knowledge of cultural resources programs and issues.
    • Researches environmental issues that may impact tribal beneficial use.
    • Recommends and coordinates the development of programs for Resource Management.
    • Submits clear and concise written reports for the department.
    • Performs general clerical duties such as distributing mail, faxing, copying.
    • Performs field work as required for environmental studies throughout the year.
    • Assists with educational outreach events
    • Follows company rules, regulations and general practices while performing job function.
    • Performs all other duties as assigned.

    INTERACTION

    • Interacts with internal and external guests.

    SUPERVISION

    • Does not provide supervision to others.

    Required Skills

    EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION

    • High school diploma or General education degree (GED).
    • Valid California Class C Driver’s license, with a good driving record.

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint and internet usage.
    • Good attention to detail and organizational skills with ability to handle multiple projects.
    • Good mathematical skills.
    • Good oral and written communication skills.
    • Must be dependable and have ability to work cooperatively with others, and value teamwork.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse cultures.
    • Ability to work independently and maintain high degree of confidentiality.
    • Must be willing to travel, and work occasional weekends as needed.
