    POSITION DETAILS

    Stewards Individual Placement Program (SIPP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. SIPP in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service are seeking a VISTA member who will assist in increasing Forest Service capacity by engaging diverse populations in volunteer opportunities, and further supporting workforce development service programs in conservation careers. VISTA positions would allow for safe, productive, and sustainable partnerships and volunteer programs across the Forests by directly increasing capacity on the ground. 

     

    VISTAs will be strategically positioned on high-opportunity Districts to leverage partnership opportunities and effectively support and expand funding opportunities. The COE anticipates revenue benefits to local rural communities from increases in forest visitation from ecotourism and voluntourism activities. The VISTA Corps member will assist with recruiting a diverse and representative group of volunteers and supporting integrative projects for all resource areas in their assigned national forests throughout the Southern Region.

     

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

    • Support local economic & community development by providing workforce development opportunities
    • Support sustainable recreation and tourism related to the National Forest
    • Identify fiscal support and community resources
    • Create framework for sustainable volunteers and service program
    • Write grants to assist the team

     

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Some College experience
    • Minimum Age of 18
    • S. citizen or authorized to work in the U.S.

    IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:

    • Leads operational team members in accordance with policies, practices and applicable laws
    • Coaches and develops hourly team members to maximize their effectiveness and drive accountability
    • Works with all team members to ensure training effectiveness, and provides timely feedback to address concerns
    • Identifies and develops high potential team members for levels of greater responsibility and scope
    • Ensures performance feedback is completed effectively and on a timely basis
    • Provides overall leadership for key processes and standards to maximize safety, quality, cost, delivery, and morale utilizing best practices
    • Ensures appropriate tracking and reporting of all KPIs within assigned area utilizing established standards
    • Leads and coordinates all continuous improvement activities within the assigned area
    • Leads problem solving efforts with the team to address operational upset conditions
    • Ensures Company assets and physical plant are secure and well maintained. Identifies equipment issues and coordinate necessary maintenance activities (including preventative) on the various production machines
    • Ensures accurate production documentation/data entry
    • Manages effective labor utilization and efficiencies through participating in the process of employee scheduling, and assessing/authorizing appropriate use of overtime
    • Support cultural initiatives and maintains a strong focus on personal accountability within their team
    • Promotes engagement and involvement in a variety of Company activities to include (Safety & Environmental meetings, Community Involvement meetings, special projects or assignments, as well as training activities among the team).

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
    • Minimum of 3-5 years operations experience and supervisory/leadership experience
    • Experience in corrugated, paper or similar manufacturing environments desired 
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred (Engineering, Production/Operations Management)
    • Demonstrable experience implementing lean manufacturing principles in a variety of operational applications
    • Will have demonstrated leadership within a group of team members in productivity, quality and safety
    • Must possess a strong safety and operations background
    • Demonstrated team orientation and excellent interpersonal communication skills
    • Ability to develop and give presentations to direct reports, peers, etc., on operational topics
    • Will have strong process acumen and be results-driven  
    • Very strong attention to detail/commitment to accuracy
    • High level of initiative and motivation
