    TRIBAL GOV’T GROUNDSKEEPER

    SUMMARY:

    Performs a variety of grounds related functions from litter pick-up and digging, to tree trimming, fertilizing, watering, installation and repair of irrigation systems. Performs skilled and semi-skilled manual labor and operates a variety of power tools and equipment. Inspects grounds, facilities, equipment and recommends repairs. Work involves both heavy and light physical labor in a wide range of grounds keeping activities. Routine work is subject to general supervision.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    1. Maintains assigned area of public Tribal facility.
    2. Performs assigned tasks at a productive and efficient work place without the need for continuing direct supervision.
    3. Repairs systems, components, fixtures and equipment in response to trouble calls, work orders, or specific assignments from supervisor. Makes repairs immediately if practical with tools and materials readily available and advises supervisor promptly of any problems that cannot be resolved immediately.
    4. Diagnoses malfunctioning equipment, such as mowers, edgers, power carts and other grounds equipment.
    5. Must possess knowledge of proper gardening techniques, ornamental plant species and zeroscape designs and maintenance.  
    6. Weeds out undesirable plant species from ornamental plant beds by hand with the use of rakes, hoes, or other appropriate hand tools.
    7. Mow and edge lawn areas with power mowers and edgers.
    8. Water lawns, trees, shrubs, ground cover by use of appropriate manual or automatic systems or hoses as necessary.  
    9. Drive tractors, operates power trimmers, trenchers, roto-tillers and other similar equipment. Maintains tools, equipment and irrigation systems in a clean working order.  
    10. Fertilizes lawns, trees, shrubs, ground cover by hand or with the use of power equipment.
    11. Picks up litter and debris in assigned areas, rakes and sweeps up leaves and other debris, washes down sidewalks and/or shovels mud and other debris from sidewalks, roads and aesthetically pleasing condition.  
    12. Performs all other related and compatible duties as assigned.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to work alone as needed; handle chemicals and cleaners; lift fifty (50) pounds; carry thirty (30) pounds; communicate effectively and courteously with the public; work well with co-workers in a team environment; follow written and oral directions.     EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

    • Experience working with various maintenance supplies.
    • Knowledge and proper use and maintenance of tools related to job functions.
    • Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Must have the ability to work in a fast paced, deadline oriented environment.
    • California driver's license required.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
