    Our Client is seeking a Sr. Substation Electrical Engineer to provide technical support and direction for an Electric Substation and Transmission Design Team in our Houston, TX office. The position requires demonstrated leadership. engineering and design competency, in a utility or consulting environment for Electric Substation Projects with voltages up to 500 KV. The position requires excellent communication, leadership and client relation skills.

    RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    • Attend Pre-bid walkdown with the client, prepare estimates, schedules and write proposals.
    • Manage the workflow in projects of various size and duration using Project Management methodology.
    • Lead teams of engineers and designers and assume responsibility for their success on a project.
    • Function as a Project Manager on multi-discipline projects.
    • Provide technical support for customers and support regional business development initiatives as a technical resource under the direction of the General Manager in Houston and/or the Electrical Department Manager at other offices.
    • Perform technical analyses of electrical substation systems including AC & DC schematic development, relay protection and controls, wiring design, equipment arrangements, conduit and raceway design, bus work, lighting and grounding design.
    • Mentor members of the staff.
    • Prepare new drawings, modify existing drawings, or create as-built documents.
    • Review electrical power calculations, lighting and grounding calculations, and prepare equipment and installation specifications.

    DESIRED SKILLS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    Seeking a candidate with 10 years’ or more experience. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are important. Candidates should have a thorough understanding and aptitude in the use of current computer software including CAD systems, SKM or ETAP, general office products, design and business enterprise software.

    EDUCATION AND CREDENTIALS, MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
    • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license and ability to obtain licensee by comity in other states.
    • 10 years of prior professional experience.
    • 4 years in a supervisory capacity directing other engineers and/or designers.
    • 4 years of experience with transmission and distribution voltage level projects in the specification and design of electric substation equipment, arrangements, power, protection and control systems.
    • Positive track record with client relationships.
    • Able to travel nationwide up to 50% of the time.

    PREFERENCE GIVEN TO:

    • Masters of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
    • Working knowledge of SKM and/or ETAP analytical software or equivalent.
