    The Position: Vineyard Wind is looking for a Senior Manager of Environmental Affairs to join the team in support of the company’s efforts to develop and permit well-sited offshore wind projects with minimal environmental impact. Vineyard Wind is leading efforts to develop and permit commercial-scale offshore wind projects in the United States (US). The complex project development process includes interfacing with various federal, state, and local agencies, as well as many other stakeholders.

    The successful candidate will be engaged in a variety of activities within the offshore wind environmental affairs arena, including environmental surveys, permitting, community outreach, and engineering support. Specifically, this position will lead the science, technology, policy, and environmental aspects of project permitting and development.

    • Provide technical, biological, ecological, and environmental expertise in support of offshore wind project development activities, to achieve successful project permitting.
    • Manage multiple highly specialized consultants, multi-year environmental survey programs, including the procurement and contracting of consultant/contractor services.
    • Support budget forecasting and tracking across several projects.
    • Coordinate with federal agencies, including the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, United States Coast Guard, National Marine Fisheries Service, United States Fish and Wildlife Service, and various state agencies as well as non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders.
    • Collaborate and communicate effectively with inter-disciplinary internal and external teams.
    • Lead participation in local, state, regional, and national environmental working groups to identify and address key environmental challenges and concerns associated with developing renewable energy projects in the offshore environment.
    • Manage collaborative partnerships with organizations on environmental initiatives.
    • Support the Director of Environmental Affairs on various other tasks to advance project development.

    Job Qualifications: 

    • Must be passionate about working on environmental and conservation matters in the rapidly emerging US offshore wind industry.
    • A bachelor’s or graduate degree in environmental studies/science, marine affairs, natural resources, biology, ecology or related field from an accredited program.
    • Five to ten years of experience permitting and developing energy and/or transmission projects, preferably offshore projects, in the Northeastern US.
    • Successful experience permitting energy-related projects in compliance with federal regulatory requirements, including the National Environmental Policy Act, and various state and local environmental regulations.
    • An understanding of the complexities, challenges, and opportunities associated with developing and permitting energy projects.
    • Experience complying with regulations and guidelines provided by regulatory authorities, as well as ensuring HSE protocols are maintained as a top priority.
    • Outstanding written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Qualified candidates must have a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate across multiple levels within a company and externally to diverse audiences and stakeholders.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail required.
    • A flexible schedule and capability to do some travel as needed.
    • Additional desired qualifications include a positive and energetic attitude, ability to work independently and proactively, and capability to remain graceful under pressure.
