    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Product Development Scientist is responsible for leading and managing the product development process from inception to launch of products which cover both human and select animal markets. They will work with marketing, sales, the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) and drive new products, product enhancements, product redesign and future product innovations at required gross margins.

     

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Use consumer and scientific insights, company strategies and economic trends to inspire future solutions to improve the lives of people and pets
    • Work with Scientific Advisory Board to develop, implement and complete research & development (R&D) projects
    • Conduct independent R&D and create prototypes of new products and follow continuous improvement process models
    • Assign and manage timeline for all products in development, including assessing products with management team for consideration/inclusion in product pipeline
    • Work with internal and external resources to ensure products conform to all current regulatory requirements
    • Coordinate with Sales Team to prepare product samples and presentations for customer meetings
    • Collaborate with Marketing and QA/QC to craft approved messaging and claims
    • Work with Operations to acquire costs from plant/CM’s and prepare cost analysis sheets for each product
    • Oversee testing protocols for formulation development and manufacturing capabilities
    • Compile, review and maintain all product specifications for accuracy, completeness, quality, affordability, and compliance prior to issuance, including sign offs of product spec sheets
    • Resolve with team members any discrepancies that do not meet design, merchandising, production or financial requirements for product
    • Act as the liaison between the Scientific Advisory Board, University research partners and the company
    • Review all prototypes and market samples to confirm proper technical design and production
    • Manage communication with domestic and international manufacturing vendors regarding product development and design, including any cost engineering or trouble shooting
    • Help manage intellectual property issues/opportunities
    • Other duties as assigned
    • Bachelor’s degree in life science related field(s) preferred
    • 3+ years of Product Development experience preferred
    • Exceptional project management and multi-tasking skills
    • Working knowledge of the market and competitive products preferred
    • Ability to work in a lab setting with competency in chemistry
    • Must be efficient, creative, detail oriented, and focused
    • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
    • Knowledge of SQF, GMP and FDA regulatory standards preferred (eventual knowledge thereof required)
    • Must be able to work well under pressure and enjoy a fast-paced work environment
