    Virtual Medical Doctor (MD/DO) – Clinical Evaluator

    Position Summary

    The Virtual Medical Doctor Evaluator is responsible for conducting comprehensive medical and behavioral health evaluations through secure telehealth platforms for individuals with psychiatric, developmental, neurological, cognitive, and/or medical impairments. Evaluations are completed in accordance with agency standards, state requirements, and structured medical evaluation guidelines.

    The provider will assess medical history, psychiatric history, neurological functioning, competency, physical health status, and overall functional impairment while preparing detailed evaluation reports and recommendations. This position is ideal for a physician seeking flexible part-time work in behavioral health, disability evaluation, or community-based clinical assessment services.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Conduct virtual medical evaluations using established Medical Evaluation Guidelines.

    Review and document:

    Medical and psychiatric history

    Etiology and contributing conditions

    Chronic medical issues

    Medication history

    Hospitalizations and surgeries

    Substance use history

    Current treatment providers and supports

    Complete comprehensive virtual clinical assessments including:

    General appearance and behavioral observations

    Neurological screening

    Mental status observations

    Functional limitations

    Gross motor and coordination observations

    Assessment of competency and decision-making capacity

    Review available laboratory results, records, imaging, and collateral documentation.

    Prepare detailed narrative evaluation reports with clinical impressions and prognosis.

    Assess level of disability, psychiatric impairment, and functional limitations.

    Provide recommendations for treatment, support services, care coordination, or additional evaluation when appropriate.

    Maintain timely and accurate documentation in compliance with agency, Medicaid, and state regulations.

    Collaborate with behavioral health teams, social service agencies, ACTT teams, care coordinators, and community providers as needed.

    Maintain HIPAA compliance and telehealth documentation standards.

    Required Components of Evaluation

    Evaluations are expected to include documentation of:

    History

    Character and severity of deficits

    Etiology and contributing factors

    Family and social history

    Current medical and psychiatric status

    Medication review

    Prior hospitalizations and surgeries

    Substance use concerns

    Functional limitations

    Examination

    General appearance and physical observations

    Neurological observations

    Behavioral presentation

    Gross motor functioning

    Coordination and gait observations

    Mental competency indicators

    Review of laboratory or supporting medical data

    Clinical Impression

    Summary of abnormal findings

    Medical and psychiatric impressions

    Functional limitations

    Competency assessment

    Prognosis and expected progression

    Qualifications

    Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)

    Active unrestricted medical license in applicable state(s)

    Experience in psychiatry, family medicine, internal medicine, neurology, physical medicine, disability evaluations, or behavioral health preferred

    Telehealth experience preferred

    DEA registration preferred but not required depending on role responsibilities

    Preferred Experience

    Experience completing disability or competency evaluations

    Familiarity with severe mental illness and intellectual/developmental disabilities

    Experience with Medicaid populations and community mental health systems

    Knowledge of psychiatric and neurological conditions

    Experience working with ACTT, outpatient behavioral health, or social service agencies

    Skills and Competencies

    Strong clinical interviewing and assessment skills

    Excellent written documentation and report-writing abilities

    Ability to conduct structured evaluations independently

    Professional and compassionate communication style

    Ability to assess competency, cognition, and functional impairment

    Strong organizational and time-management skills

    Comfortable using telehealth technology and electronic health records

    Work Environment

    This is a fully virtual position utilizing secure HIPAA-compliant telehealth systems. Providers may work remotely while collaborating with interdisciplinary behavioral health and social service teams.
