    SCOPE/PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

    Analyze the risk and compliance of residential mortgage loan applications within the scope of agency, private investor, and company guidelines. Mortgage underwriters are responsible for minimizing the risk exposure of the organization by certifying applications are underwritten to the applicable parameters.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Technical Expertise:
      • Completing a thorough analysis of loan applications to determine compliance with agency, company and investor guidelines and subsequently issuing compliant loan decisions on each application.
      • Subsequent review of resubmitted loan applications to analyze requested documents necessary to issue a final loan decision.
    • Administrative:
      • Responding to loan audits and post-closing request for additional documentation in a timely manner.
      • Completing self-provisioned and assigned training and research to maintain a current working knowledge of agency and investor guidelines and policies.
      • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Manager

    KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

    • Maintain an acceptable Customer Service Rating of 75% or higher at all times.
    • Meet productivity performance metrics as outlined on your Bonus Compensation Plan.
    • Maintain an acceptable Defect Rate based upon preclosing and post-closing QC reviews.

    WORK EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • Prior experience in a Certified Loan Processor or Underwriter position analyzing conventional, FHA, VA, USDA and bond agency applications.
    • Excellent analytic skills, attention to detail, and ability to work within time constraints.
    • Excellent level of oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate across a variety of audiences.
    • Intermediate level of computer skills and the ability to function in a windows environment utilizing Outlook, Word and Excel.
    • Prior experience with the Ellie Mae Encompass Loan Origination System or similar preferred.
    • Professional and effective interpersonal skills. Solid decision-making skills with display of professionalism in maintaining confidentiality. Ability to build strong relationships with internal business partners to achieve success.
    • Proven ability to motivate, develop, coach and mentor staff at all levels.
    • Ability to rapidly acquire detailed knowledge of departmental policies, practices and procedures.
    • Strong time management skills, fast learner, self-motivated, and comfortable taking initiative and handling multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
    • Committed to taking responsibility and ownership for agreed actions and delivery.
    • Reports to work on a daily and timely basis.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Two to three years prior experience underwriting credit and collateral to conventional agency standards or four plus years of prior experience in a Senior Loan Processor role that included provisional credit authority.
    • Direct Endorsement (DE) Designation or Staff Appraisal Reviewer (SAR) Designation strongly preferred.
    • Prior experience underwriting to bond agency requirements strongly preferred.
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
