    Job Description

    As a Real Estate Associate, you will report directly to the Head of Strategy and Real Estate to identify and support VBC real estate development projects. You will have frequent interactions with C-Suite and will work closely with division Vice Presidents to execute development deals through VBC’s vertically integrated design, manufacturing, and construction process.  

    RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):  

    • MARKET RESEARCH: Analyze data on U.S. economic forecasts and real estate trends and keep current on market conditions and underwriting developments. Research and report market information, including rent/sale comps, capitalization rates, market vacancy, trends and other data necessary to evaluate real estate opportunities.  
    • DUE DILIGENCE: Assist the Head of Strategy & Real Estate on due diligence for acquisitions and development including comprehensive review of leases, property agreements, budgets and operating statements; travel to target properties and markets will be required  
    • FINANCIAL ANALYSIS: Screen potential large-scale investments; analyze and underwrite investment opportunities for development, financing, and disposition; prepare detailed cash flow and return projections; complete market research to identify potential risks and validate underwriting assumptions 
    • FINANCIAL MODELING: Develops and maintains cost estimates, forecasts, and cost models. 
    • INVESTMENT PRESENTATIONS: Assist the Head of Real Estate in the preparation of investment materials and documents for investment committee, equity partners and legal compliance 
    • FINANCIAL REPORTING: Partners with finance and accounting to ensure leases and real estate transactions are billed and booked correctly. 
    • DATA MANAGEMENT: Maintains and improves data integrity, accuracy and reporting in the various real estate systems used. 
    • ASSET MANAGEMENT: Where applicable, establish vendor relationships, support development of legal documentation, and oversee tenant lease up process.  
    • CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT: Drives business growth by recommending enhancements and process improvements to current business systems and processes 
    • COLLABORATION: Collaborates with landowners, real estate brokers and developers, as well as city, county and state officials to obtain information about potential or existing sites.

     

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in real estate, finance, accounting or economics, (MBA preferred) 
    • 4+ years of professional real estate, finance, analytical and modeling experience  
    • Experience in student housing, multifamily, and hospitality asset classes 
    • Must possess strong analytical skills and demonstrate aptitude for analytical reasoning 
    • Strong business acumen regarding financial concepts, such as valuation, structuring and waterfalls 
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; advanced Excel skills required 
    • Travel is required 10% of the time
