    Volunteer Coordinator

    Position Summary: YMCA Southcoast is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator to support two impactful food security programs: Sharing the Harvest Community Farm and the Full Plate Project. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, staying organized, and supporting mission-driven community work through a food insecurity and equity-informed lens.

    Essential Functions:

    Coordinate and schedule individual, group, and corporate volunteers across Sharing the Harvest Community Farm and the Full Plate Project

    Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteer inquiries and ongoing communication

    Manage volunteer sign-ups, calendars, tracking systems, and basic reporting

    Support volunteer recruitment, onboarding, orientation, and appreciation efforts

    Track volunteer hours and participation to support grants, reporting, and internal metrics

    Collaborate with program staff to align volunteer activities with program capacity and seasonal needs

    Maintain organized volunteer records and contact lists

    Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and dignity-centered volunteer experience grounded in an understanding of food insecurity

    Apply a food insecurity lens to volunteer engagement, ensuring respectful, community-centered service delivery

    Demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills in a seasonal work environment

    Work effectively with diverse populations, community partners, and volunteers of varying experience levels

    Utilize email, spreadsheets, and scheduling tools to support daily operations

    Uphold and model YMCA values of social responsibility, healthy living, and community impact

    Trainings and Certifications:

    CPR/First Aid/AED certification (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe)

    Food safety or food handling training (or willingness to complete)

    Completion of YMCA-required online trainings prior to the start of the position, including:

    New Employee Orientation

    Child Abuse Prevention

    Mandated Reporter

    Bloodborne Pathogens

    Hazard Communication

    Employee Safety

    Additional training related to volunteer management, food insecurity, or community engagement preferred

    Work Environment:

    Combination of office-based administrative work and on-site program support

    Seasonal variability in hours, with peak demand April–October

    Occasional evenings or weekends for group volunteer days or events

    Outdoor work in farm or food distribution settings during volunteer shifts
