    Dependable Hospice – We Honor Veterans Program

    Location: Southern Arizona (Multiple Locations)

    Commitment: Flexible, typically 2–4 hours/week

    Reports To: Volunteer Coordinator

    Status: Volunteer (Unpaid)

    Make a Difference in the Life of a Fellow Veteran

    Dependable Hospice is proud to partner with the We Honor Veterans program—a national initiative recognizing the unique needs of America’s veterans and their families at the end of life.

    We’re seeking Veteran Volunteers and Active-Duty Service Members who want to give back to their fellow veterans by providing meaningful companionship and support. Your military background offers a shared bond that brings comfort, understanding, and healing to those who’ve served.

    Whether it’s a bedside visit, a pinning ceremony, or a heartfelt conversation—your time can have a lasting impact.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Offer peer-to-peer support and companionship to veteran hospice patients

    • Participate in pinning ceremonies and “Welcome Home” events

    • Support veteran-to-veteran matchups and discussion groups

    • Engage in veteran-focused outreach and education

    • Distribute legacy kits and honor materials

    • Represent Dependable Hospice at community, civic, and military appreciation events

    • Provide emotional support to veteran family members and caregivers

    Ideal for Individuals Who Are:

    • Honorably discharged veterans or retirees

    • Reservists or active-duty members seeking service opportunities

    • Military spouses or Gold Star family members

    • Passionate about honoring veterans with dignity and compassion

    Volunteer Qualities & Requirements

    • Respectful, empathetic, and dependable

    • Comfortable engaging in light conversation or life review

    • Sensitive to PTSD, trauma, and end-of-life challenges

    • Willing to complete basic volunteer orientation

    • Able to pass a background check and TB screening (required)

    • (Optional) Willing to attend We Honor Veterans training sessions

    Developed by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) in partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) , the We Honor Veterans program ensures that veterans receive thoughtful, compassionate end-of-life care tailored to their experiences.
