Humane is looking for a full-time Volunteer Programs Coordinator responsible for assisting in planning, organizing, scheduling and directing the volunteer programs with the Volunteer Programs Manager to help support all Humane Fort Wayne departments through creative solutions and engagement that involve, educate and celebrate a diverse community and its volunteers.
What You’ll Do
Effectively communicate with Humane staff and volunteers, providing education and information accordingly.
Put together a weekly newsletter, requiring the collection of information and the creation of content and design.
Accurately maintain physical and digital records and time for volunteers.
Select, schedule, and train volunteers.
Prepare volunteer supplies.
Set up for and lead volunteers at on site and at off site events.
Answer inquiries and correspondence about volunteering in a timely manner.
Assist with organizing and coordinating volunteer schedules across multiple platforms
Clean and organize volunteer areas.
Assist the Volunteer Programs Manager with recruitment, onboarding, education and training of long term volunteers.
Assist with scheduled corporate, school and group volunteer days.
Assist with creating and implementing new volunteer programs.
This is not a supervisory role, however this position does coordinate many volunteers and will help assist managers and volunteers with issues in relation to the volunteer program.
Run Pet Food Pantry regularly scheduled bagging times at associated locations.
Travel between Humane Fort Wayne locations for weekly office hours.
Other duties as assigned by the Volunteer Programs Coordinator.
What You Bring
High school diploma or equivalent.
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must be able to learn and communicate basic information, policies and procedures from all Humane Fort Wayne departments.
An upbeat, positive attitude.
Able to give and receive instruction.
Must have good time management skills and take initiative in their duties.
Must be comfortable and excited to professionally communicate and work with people from a variety of backgrounds.
Must be computer literate and able to learn new software programs.
Must be committed to the pet retention, spay/neuter, wellness and adoption mission of Humane Fort Wayne and be able to communicate this mission with a professional and friendly manner.
Must be willing to travel between Humane Fort Wayne locations for weekly office hours.
Must have a valid Driver's License and reliable transportation
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift 50+ lbs and work standing or sitting for 8 hours
Must possess an acceptable degree of dexterity in hands and fingers and be able to use arms above your head, bend at the waist, crawl & climb.
Must have good vision including peripheral vision, fine detail, distance, depth perception and ability to focus.
Animal Handling
Minimal animal handling will be expected of this position; however, some basic skills are needed to perform certain tasks
Must be able to learn characteristics of animal behavior and properly apply and share those handling skills with volunteers (for example: be able to identify aggressive or fearful behavior)
Should be able to identify their own animal handling limitations and ask for help
