COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER
LOCATION: Washington, DC
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 10+
DEGREE: BA/BS in Communications, English, Public Relations or related field
CLEARANCE: SECRET
We need motivated candidates with communications project management, writing and editorial, and strategic communications planning experience to support a US Navy command communications contract. This position will support command communications activities, including:
- Providing management and oversight of a team of strategic communications professionals supporting tasks including writing, editing, public release processing, video and multimedia production, speechwriting, event management and digital content development.
- Providing support for public affairs products, including presentations, press releases, briefs, audits, communications plans and newsletters.
- Working with senior level government communicators to develop short and long-term communications plans and strategies.
- Provide support to video and digital production, speechwriters and content developers for ongoing weekly, bi weekly, monthly and annual projects including short and long form videos.
- Manage monthly reporting and invoicing, employee and project workflow and support on-site clients with daily projects.
The ideal candidate will have the following skills:
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing a communications team, with strong project management, personnel management and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of written communications, including senior level experience in writing, editing, layout/design and proofing. Ability to proof and edit work of more junior personnel.
- Ability to translate complex technical, legal, legislative, regulatory and statistical information into plain language for a variety of audiences.
- Ability to assess operational environment and recommend creative communication solutions within a deadline driven, fast-paced environment.
- Strong project management skills with ability to take project from concept to completion.
- Experience in managing budgeting, scheduling and workforce for a team.
- Experience interacting with Senior level military and civilian personnel.
- Understanding of the Associated Press style guide.
- Understanding of MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite.
