  • Responsibilities

    The Jr. Purchasing Agent sources, purchases, plans, and schedules the movement of raw materials, packaging materials, components, and related material through production and inventory process.

    • Run and review MRP reports on a daily basis to procure materials as well as expedite, de-expedite or cancel purchase orders.
    • Prioritize placement of orders based on need and lead times.
    • Obtain confirmation of orders to include pricing, quantity and delivery dates.
    • Record and analyze vendor data to include delivery dates (promise dates) pricing and quality information and other metrics to establish and maintain vendor performance.
    • Negotiate pricing with vendors and seek alternate vendors or materials for approval by QC and R&D to obtain the best price possible or reduce lead time.
    • Maintain accurate material data in the ERP system to include lead time, pricing, minimum order quantities and supplier price lists.
    • Work with accounting to resolve pricing discrepancies or invoicing issues.
    • Interface with Planning concerning materials needed for work orders and notify immediately of any delays.
    • Negotiate with vendors to reduce costs and lead times and obtain cost savings as well as document and report the results.
    • Other duties and tasks as assigned.

    REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

    • Bachelor's degree preferred or Associates Degree and 1-2 years of applicable customer related experience in lieu of degree.

    • Working knowledge of customer service, logistics and order management system, preferably in a fast paced manufacturing environment.

    • Maintains a professional working relationship with suppliers to ensure their continued support to provide quality products/services in a timely manner.

    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

    • Strong critical thinking and negotiation skills.

    • Knowledge and experience with an ERP system and excellent computer skills (Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook).

    • Flexibility to work hours needed to accomplish department goals.

    • Ability to multi-task and follow through on departmental projects or requests from other departments.

    • Ability to work with minimum supervision while working in a team environment.
